Range Safety Officer (RSO)

The Range Safety Officer is central to the safe operation of the range and to providing a professional, safe, and enjoyable experience for guests and Members.
This is not an entry-level firearms position. Applicants must already have current, practical firearms experience and be comfortable safely handling pistols, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns before applying. This role requires direct supervision of shooters on a live-fire range. A candidate who does not already have working firearms knowledge will not be a fit for this position.
What you’ll do
- Monitor all range patrons to ensure safe firearm handling and compliance with all range rules and company policies.
- Watch for unsafe behavior, including poor muzzle control, trigger-finger violations, improper loading/unloading, and unsafe firearm handling.
- Correct guests professionally when they violate a rule or policy.
- Greet and assist range patrons to help provide a safe and pleasant shooting experience.
- Assist customers with lane assignments, target operation, and basic range equipment issues.
- Maintain the appearance, cleanliness, and safe operation of the range.
- Document range damage, safety incidents, equipment issues, and policy violations.
- Know and follow emergency response plans when required.
- Educate customers on range rules, safe firearm handling expectations, and basic range procedures.
- Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of range facilities.
- Maintain productive relationships with regular customers and Members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications
- Current, practical firearms experience is required.
- Must be able to safely handle and identify common pistols, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns.
- Must understand basic firearm safety, range commands, loading/unloading procedures, and safe muzzle discipline.
- Must be comfortable supervising shooters on a live-fire range.
- Must be able to recognize unsafe firearm handling and correct it immediately.
- 2+ years of recent firearms experience preferred.
- Prior military, law enforcement, range, firearms retail, instructor, or competitive shooting experience is preferred but not required.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and occasionally stressful situations.
- Personable, professional, and able to communicate clearly with new and experienced shooters.
- Mechanical aptitude is a plus.
- Basic computer skills are required.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Legally able to possess a firearm.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
