Ngullingah Jugun (Our Country) Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (NJAC) is establishing its first permanent Ranger workforce and is seeking an experienced Ranger leader to help shape the future of the program.

This is an opportunity that will help build NJAC’s Ranger Program from the ground up - working with Western Bundjalung people to care for Country, strengthen culture and create lasting opportunities for community.

Reporting to the CEO and based in the Northern Depot in Mallanganee, this is a permanent, full-time position where you will lead a team of four full-time Rangers, support the growth of a casual Ranger workforce and play a key role in creating employment pathways for future generations of Western Bundjalung people.

If you are motivated by developing people as much as caring for Country, we'd love to hear from you.

About NJACNJAC is the organisation that holds and manages native title rights and interests for Western Bundjalung People.

NJAC protects native title rights and interests, supports cultural heritage outcomes and creates opportunities that strengthen the future of Western Bundjalung people.

NJAC’s long-term vision is to build a sustainable Ranger Program that cares for and manages Western Bundjalung native title lands. Working in partnership with National Parks and Wildlife Service, other government agencies and external partners, the program will be supported by expert advice, practical resources and established networks, creating a strong foundation for long-term success.

About the Position
As Ranger Team Leader, you will provide leadership and direction to a growing Ranger workforce delivering land management, conservation and cultural heritage activities across Western Bundjalung Country.

You will help build a strong, supportive and accountable team where Rangers can learn, share knowledge and grow together.

  • Leading and coordinating on-Country activities
  • Mentoring Rangers and supporting career development
  • Workforce planning and rostering
  • Building a positive and accountable team culture
  • Supporting cultural heritage protection outcomes
  • Building respectful relationships with Western Bundjalung Traditional Owners, community members and partner organisations
  • Managing budgets, equipment and resources responsibly
  • Maintaining safe and compliant work practices

About You
You have experience leading Ranger work and supporting people to grow. You understand that good outcomes come from listening, working together and balancing the needs of Country, culture and community.

You will bring:

  • Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management (or related field) and at least two years' relevant experience
  • Proven leadership experience, ideally within an Indigenous Ranger Program
  • Experience in land management, conservation, bush regeneration, cultural heritage or related work
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing team members
  • Experience coordinating budgets, resources or operational expenditure
  • A practical approach to improving efficiency and reducing waste
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Current Drivers Licence and ability to operate a 4WD
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety
  • Ability to safely perform the inherent requirements of the role, including outdoor field-based work

The Benefits

  • Help establish NJAC's first permanent Ranger workforce
  • Influence how the Ranger Program develops and grows
  • Strong investment in workforce and organisational capacity building
  • Access to specialist Environmental, HR and IT support
  • Established partnerships with National Parks and Wildlife Service and other agencies
  • Professional and leadership development opportunities
  • Cultural learning opportunities and cultural leave
  • Collaborative, community-focused working environment
