Raw Materials Operations Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Raw Materials Operations Manager to join GS Paperboard & Packaging Sdn Bhd in Banting, Selangor on a full-time basis. This is a strategic position responsible for overseeing the entire raw materials supply chain, from procurement through to inventory management and supplier coordination. You will play a vital role in ensuring the consistent availability of high-quality raw materials whilst optimizing costs and maintaining operational efficiency. This role reports directly to senior management and is instrumental in supporting the production planning and scheduling functions across our manufacturing operations.

What you'll be doing

1. Oversee procurement activities including supplier selection, negotiation and management to ensure competitive pricing and reliable supply of raw materials
2. Develop and implement raw materials inventory management strategies to maintain optimal stock levels whilst minimizing carrying costs
3. Coordinate with production planning and scheduling teams to forecast material requirements and align supply with production schedules
4. Monitor supplier performance against key performance indicators (KPIs) including quality, delivery timeliness and cost effectiveness
5. Manage vendor relationships and resolve supply chain disruptions or quality issues promptly
6. Analyze raw materials costs and implement cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality standards
7. Maintain accurate records of inventory, purchase orders and supplier agreements
8. Conduct regular audits of raw materials warehouse facilities and storage conditions
9. Prepare reports on inventory levels, procurement activities and supply chain performance for management review
10. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies relating to materials handling and storage

What we're looking for

1. Minimum 5 years of experience in raw materials management, procurement or supply chain operations within a manufacturing environment (managerial role).
2. Proven experience in inventory management and materials planning within production-based organisations
3. Strong knowledge of production planning and scheduling systems, ideally within paperboard or packaging manufacturing
4. Excellent negotiation skills and proven ability to manage supplier relationships effectively
5. Proficiency in inventory management systems and materials requirement planning (MRP) software
6. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions
7. Strong organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail
8. Excellent communication abilities with capacity to work collaboratively across departments
9. Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics or related field
10. Knowledge of quality assurance standards and paperboard industry practices would be advantageous
