What they need
La Vie en Rose is a growing, family-run care provider based in Gloucestershire. We provide high-quality care and support to people in their own homes, helping them maintain their independence, dignity and quality of life.
We are now recruiting Reablement Support Workers to join our Community Reablement team across the Tewkesbury allocated area, including Tewkesbury, Churchdown, Brockworth and Winchcombe.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing service where the focus is not simply on providing care, but on helping people regain confidence, develop everyday skills and become as independent as possible.
What is Community Reablement?
Community Reablement is short-term support for people who may have experienced an illness, injury, hospital admission or a change in their ability to manage everyday activities independently.
Every person will have their own goals. Your role will be to work with the person to help them achieve those goals.
This is different from traditional domiciliary care.
Our approach is:
DO WITH, NOT FOR.
Rather than automatically doing a task for someone, you will encourage them to try for themselves wherever it is safe to do so.
For example, you may support someone to:
- prepare their own breakfast;
- regain confidence with mobility;
- manage aspects of their personal care;
- prepare a meal;
- manage their medication as independently as possible;
- complete everyday household tasks;
- develop confidence after returning home from hospital.
Sometimes the right support will be encouragement or prompting. Sometimes it will be supervision. At other times, a person may need hands-on assistance.
Your role is to recognise the difference and provide the right level of support at the right time.
What will you be doing?
As a Reablement Support Worker, your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting people following hospital discharge, illness, injury or a change in their independence.
- Working alongside clients to achieve their individual Reablement goals.
- Encouraging people to complete everyday tasks for themselves wherever possible.
- Supporting personal care while promoting dignity, choice and independence.
- Supporting safe mobility and transfers.
- Identifying risks, barriers and changes in a person's abilities.
- Encouraging independence with meal preparation, eating and drinking.
- Supporting clients with medication in accordance with their care plan, MAR and medication procedures.
- Providing prompting, encouragement and supervision before physical assistance where appropriate.
- Observing and recognising progress or areas where a client may need additional support.
- Recording clear and accurate care notes showing what the client was able to do independently and what support was required.
- Reporting changes in needs, risks or progress to the management team.
- Working closely with the Reablement team and other professionals involved in the person's support.
- Maintaining professional boundaries and safeguarding the people we support.
What makes this role different?
You will not simply be completing a list of tasks for a client.
You will be helping someone work towards doing more for themselves.
A successful Reablement Support Worker will understand that sometimes giving someone time, encouragement and the opportunity to try is more valuable than doing the task for them.
You will see small changes and progress that can make a real difference to someone's confidence and independence.
