Reading Specialist - Elementary

Lightfoot Elementary is seeking a passionate and dedicated Reading Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a love for reading and enhancing literacy skills among elementary students. This full-time position requires a collaborative approach to support teachers and students in developing effective reading strategies, assessments, and interventions tailored to meet diverse learning needs.

Responsibilities

• Assess students’ reading levels and identify areas for improvement through formal and informal assessments.
• Develop and implement individualized reading intervention plans for students who require additional support.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate reading strategies across the curriculum and enhance overall literacy instruction.
• Provide professional development and coaching for teachers on effective reading instruction and intervention techniques.
• Create and maintain a positive and engaging learning environment that promotes a love for reading.
• Monitor and track student progress, adjusting interventions as needed to ensure student success.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and provide resources for supporting literacy at home.
• Stay current with best practices in literacy instruction and research-based reading programs.
• Participate in school meetings, committees, and professional development opportunities to contribute to the overall mission of Lightfoot Elementary.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Literacy, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Valid teaching certification with a reading endorsement or specialized reading certification.
• Proven experience as a Reading Specialist or in a similar role within an elementary school setting.
• Strong knowledge of literacy development, reading assessments, and intervention strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.
• Ability to create engaging and effective lesson plans tailored to diverse learning styles and needs.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
