What they need

Join Our Team

Watford Home Hardware Building Centre is looking for a dependable, organized and hands-on Receiving Associate to join our team.

Receiving is an important part of keeping our store running smoothly. In this role, you’ll be responsible for receiving and verifying incoming merchandise, organizing and moving products, processing receiving documentation, and helping ensure materials get where they need to go accurately and efficiently.

This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in keeping things organized, enjoys physical and practical work, pays attention to the details, and enjoys both independent work and contributing to the overall team's success.

What You’ll Do

As our Receiving Associate, you will:

  • Receive and verify incoming merchandise against purchase orders, invoices, packing slips and other documentation.
  • Identify and report shortages, damages, backorders and other order discrepancies.
  • Assist with loading and unloading Home Hardware distribution trucks, vendor deliveries and other incoming shipments.
  • Receive and handle a wide variety of merchandise, including lumber and building materials, steel, drywall, windows, doors, cabinets, flooring and vanities.
  • Inspect high-value and delicate merchandise for damage upon arrival.
  • Price, organize and move incoming merchandise to the appropriate sales floor, warehouse or storage location.
  • Process and organize special orders, layaways, repair items, returns and refused merchandise.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date receiving records and documentation.
  • Keep receiving, warehouse and storage areas clean, safe and well organized.
  • Ensure stored merchandise is properly located and labelled.
  • Safely operate forklifts, pushcarts and other material-handling equipment required for the role.
  • Communicate effectively with delivery personnel, vendors and WHHBC team members.
  • Help customers and team members with the movement of heavy, bulky or oversized merchandise when required.
  • Follow WHHBC receiving, safety and operational procedures.
  • Support other store priorities and projects as needed.

What We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Reliability, accountability and a willingness to take ownership of their work.
  • The ability to work efficiently while maintaining accuracy and safety.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to read and accurately interpret purchase orders, invoices, packing slips, bills of lading and similar documentation.
  • Computer skills and the ability to learn WHHBC systems and technology.
  • The ability to safely lift, move and place merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to safely operate, or learn to operate, forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A willingness to learn and continually develop product, receiving and operational knowledge.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.

What Success Looks Like

You’ll thrive in this role if you notice when something isn’t where it should be, catch discrepancies before they become problems, keep your work area organized, communicate when something needs attention, and follow through on what needs to get done.

You’ll be someone the team can count on to help keep merchandise moving accurately, safely and efficiently so that our customers and team members have what they need, when they need it.

Schedule

This is a full-time, Monday-to-Friday position, working 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional flexibility outside regular scheduled hours, including evenings, weekends or holidays, may be required based on operational needs.

About Us
