Recreation Director

Job Summary ( This is a MATERNITY COVERAGE POSITION) 12-18 Months.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Recreation Director to lead our recreation departments activities. You will need to provide exceptional care and support to Residents of our Home. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in caregiving. This role requires excellent communication skills, a compassionate approach to leadership, and a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our residents.

Temporary Recreation Director

Duties include but are not limited to:

· At Karwood, the recreation director will be in charge of all recreational activities.

· To assess the needs of residents.

· Plan programs that can include arts, crafts, music, exercise and games.

· The Director will require solid communication skills to explain activities to individuals with different capabilities or to large groups. They must also have leadership abilities to organize groups and maintain order.

· To schedule activities on a daily basis.

· To provide variety, by contacting outside recreation providers such as musicians, movie theatres and museums to develop programs for the home.

· The director is to explain rules of the activity and to teach residents as needed.

· Organize and set out equipment and supplies and to supervise the activities to increase enjoyment of each residents’ day

· The director is to also spend individual time with residents to help them be active and to modify activities to suit individual capabilities.

· Update the activity calendar and post pictures to social media platforms.

· Decorating the Home for different seasons and holidays.

· Arranging and coordinating small fundraisers to support the residents program.

· Arranging outings for the residents. To safeguard and account for residents when taking them on outings other activities outside the home

· Assist PCA/Housekeeping/dining when required, due to sick calls(when trained)

· Foster an environment of engagement, encouragement and safeguard to ensure resident’s well-being is maintained. Particularly for those seniors who are vulnerable and require guidance/support

· Be sure to always approach residents with a friendly attitude and be courteous

· In case of emergency, assist PCA’s if they require assistance with a resident or required to assist/escort residents to or from main dining room

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Is compassionate and cares about the dignity of each resident
Communicates well
Possesses patience and understanding when dealing with residents
Is able to kneel, bend, stoop and lift repeatedly
Has good listening skills
Understands how good health and hygiene go hand in hand
