Recreation Technician CTRS

The Activities Technician coordinates, and delivers specific allied therapy treatment programs to facilitate patient rehabilitation.

Responsibilities:

• Gathers pertinent clinical data in areas of patient motor, social and leisure skills.
• Determines specific disabilities and capabilities of each patient.
• Develops therapeutic relationships with patients and significant others.
• Formulates, implements, evaluates, and modifies clinically sound individualize treatment plans and corresponding therapeutic procedures.
• Provides patient education, individual and group therapy in areas of organized recreational and physical development, therapeutic social events, and leisure skills.
• Participates as a vital member of the interdisciplinary team.
• Maintain a safe and health-promoting milieu in clinical processes and in the physical environment.
• Completes and utilizes all relevant documentation.
• Maintains inventory of relevant supplies, checks supplies and equipment in and out, and performs routine maintenance on relevant equipment.
• Actively contributes to the development of the therapeutic milieu within the department and hospital.
• Completes special projects when requested and required.
• Demonstrates ability to respond and assist in unit codes and emergencies.
• Completes special projects or other related work as requested or required.
• Shows ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
• Demonstrates ability to work with others.
• Adapt to changing situations or work assignments.
• Demonstrates willingness to rotate to other areas of hospital within the limits of preparation and skill level.
• Conform to uniform and dress code, personal hygiene and good grooming.
• Wear and properly display name badge.
• Positively respond to guidance or counseling and attempts to benefit by it.
• Adept in identifying potential problems within the department and seeks management guidance.
• Demonstrates excellent organizational skills and originator of new ideas and methods.
• Use verbal and non-verbal communication with others, i.e., courtesy, tone of voice, facial expressions, gestures, etc.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in continuing educational programs as prescribed by hospital policy, as well as attendance to hospital and department staff meetings per department policy.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED

Current R.T. certification or certification eligibility as Recreation Assistant

CPR/AED certified.

Experience:

Six (6) months of clinical experience in psychiatric setting

Previous experience in Recreation Therapy a plus

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of clinical theory and specific techniques of intervention.
• Knowledge of hospital policies, program policies, etc.
• Knowledge of safety standard and emergency care procedures.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to interact effectively with patients in an empathetic and professional manner.
• Ability to respond appropriately with patient’s emotional crisis, physical outbursts, etc.
• Ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team and to cooperate with fellow members.
• Ability to demonstrate flexibility and openness in response to changing demands.

Must be able to pass a Level 2 Background
