Recreation Therapist

At Mindful Motion Therapies, we are seeking a motivated and compassionate Recreation Therapist to join our youth-focused program team. In this impactful role, you will design, implement, and evaluate therapeutic recreation activities that support the emotional, behavioral, and social development of at-risk youth.

Position Focus

This role will work with youth who may be experiencing:

• Behavioral challenges
• Trauma or unstable home environments
• School difficulties or truancy
• Emotional regulation concerns
• Juvenile justice involvement
• Substance abuse exposure
• Social skill deficits

Responsibilities

• Develop individualized recreation therapy and life-skills-based activity plans tailored to each youth’s needs, goals, and personal interests.
• Facilitate engaging individual sessions using therapeutic techniques such as sports and fitness, art-based interventions, music-based activities, mindfulness, yoga, team-building games, and outdoor recreation.
• Conduct assessments to evaluate youth strengths, barriers, interests, and behavioral needs to determine appropriate interventions.
• Promote positive social interaction, emotional regulation, self-esteem, communication skills, and healthy coping strategies through structured recreation programming.
• Collect and document data on youth participation, behavior patterns, progress toward goals, and session outcomes to support ongoing treatment planning.
• Collaborate with program staff, case managers, and families to ensure consistent support and wraparound care.
• Assist in creating a safe, supportive, and structured environment that encourages engagement and reduces high-risk behaviors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy/Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS)
• Experience working with adolescents in youth programs, behavioral health, school-based services, residential programs, or juvenile justice settings (Preferred)
• Strong leadership skills
• Ability to build trust, rapport, and positive relationships with youth
• CPR/First Aid certification
• CPI/SAMA Training (Willing to Obtain)

Pay: $55.00 per hour
