About Optwise Career

Optwise Career provides structured, high-touch career coaching and recruitment support for students and early-career professionals pursuing opportunities in the U.S. market. Our model goes beyond traditional career advising. We work alongside students throughout the recruitment journey—from career positioning and application strategy to networking, interview preparation, offer conversion, and ongoing accountability.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Recruitment Coach who can guide students through the full recruitment process and, most importantly, help them turn strategy into consistent action and measurable progress. The Recruitment Coach will serve as a student's primary recruitment partner, helping them understand what to do, when to do it, and how to improve when results are not coming. This role is particularly well suited for someone with experience in recruiting, HR, talent acquisition, career coaching, university career services, or candidate development who understands how U.S. employers evaluate candidates.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment Strategy & Career Positioning

  • Understand each student's academic background, experience, career goals, strengths, and constraints.
  • Help students identify realistic and competitive target roles, industries, and companies.
  • Develop individualized recruitment strategies and timelines.
  • Help students distinguish between primary career targets and appropriate backup opportunities.
  • Identify gaps that may prevent students from becoming competitive candidates and coordinate additional support when necessary.

Resume & Application Readiness

  • Review resumes from a recruiter and hiring-manager perspective.
  • Ensure resumes are properly positioned for targeted roles and aligned with relevant job descriptions.
  • Guide students on application strategy, prioritization, and timing.
  • Help students understand how to tailor their positioning without unnecessarily rewriting their entire profile for every application.
  • Monitor whether students are maintaining sufficient application volume and quality.

Interview Preparation

  • Conduct mock interviews for recruiter/HR screens and behavioral interviews.
  • Prepare students for common questions including:
  • Tell me about yourself
  • Why this company/role?
  • Why should we hire you?
  • Behavioral and situational questions
  • Resume-based questions
  • Career-transition questions
  • Strengths, weaknesses, failures, conflicts, and leadership examples
  • Help students build strong STAR stories and improve communication, confidence, structure, and executive presence.
  • Identify recurring interview weaknesses and create targeted improvement plans.
  • Coordinate with technical or industry coaches when specialized interview preparation is required.

Networking & Outreach

  • Teach students how to build a professional networking strategy.
  • Review LinkedIn positioning and outreach approaches.
  • Coach students on recruiter outreach, alumni networking, coffee chats, informational interviews, and referral strategies.
  • Help students determine who to contact, what to say, and when to follow up.
  • Encourage students to build relationships rather than rely exclusively on online applications.

Recruitment Progress Management

  • Regularly review each student's recruitment pipeline, including:

Targeting → Applications → Networking → Recruiter Screens → Interviews → Final Rounds → Offers

  • Identify bottlenecks and determine why progress is slowing.
  • Adjust recruitment strategies based on actual market feedback and results.
  • Maintain clear documentation of student progress, blockers, decisions, and next steps.
  • Escalate significant concerns or strategic decisions to the senior coaching team when appropriate.

Accountability & Student Success

A major part of this position is helping students execute consistently. The Recruitment Coach should:

  • Establish clear weekly action items.
  • Follow up on agreed-upon deliverables.
  • Identify students who are becoming inactive or losing momentum.
  • Help students overcome procrastination, uncertainty, and recruitment fatigue.
  • Provide constructive but direct feedback when execution is insufficient.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while creating a supportive coaching relationship.

The objective is not simply to provide advice—it is to help students take action, improve, and move forward.

Collaboration with Other Coaches

Recruitment Coaches work as part of a broader coaching team.Depending on the student's needs, you may collaborate with:

  • Senior Career Coaches
  • Technical Coaches
  • Industry Coaches
  • Mock Interview Coaches
  • Operations and Student Success teams

The Recruitment Coach is expected to maintain visibility into the student's overall recruitment journey and ensure that different coaching resources are coordinated effectively.

QualificationsPreferred qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in Recruiting, Talent Acquisition, HR, Career Coaching, University Career Services, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. recruitment and hiring process.
  • Experience interviewing or evaluating candidates.
  • Strong knowledge of resume screening, behavioral interviewing, networking, and job-search strategy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong coaching, listening, and feedback skills.
  • Highly organized and comfortable managing multiple students simultaneously.
  • Able to provide direct, actionable feedback while maintaining empathy and professionalism.

Experience working with international students, graduate students, or early-career professionals is highly preferred.Ideal CandidateWe are particularly interested in someone who is:Recruitment-minded — You understand how employers actually evaluate candidates.Execution-oriented — You don't stop at giving advice; you follow through to see whether students actually implement it.Analytical — When a student submits 100 applications without interviews, you investigate the funnel instead of simply recommending another 100 applications.Accountable — You document progress, follow up, and identify problems early.Student-centered — You care about student outcomes while maintaining clear professional standards and boundaries.Collaborative — You know when an issue should be handled by you and when a technical, industry, or senior coach should become involved.Comfortable with direct feedback — You can tell a student when their resume, communication, interview performance, targeting, or execution is not competitive—and explain exactly how to improve it.Success MetricsPerformance may be evaluated based on:

  • Student recruitment readiness
  • Completion of agreed-upon weekly actions
  • Application and networking activity
  • Interview conversion and progression
  • Quality of interview preparation
  • Student engagement and responsiveness
  • Identification and resolution of recruitment blockers
  • Quality and consistency of student documentation
  • Collaboration with other coaches
  • Overall student satisfaction and recruitment outcomes

What This Role Is NotThis is not simply a resume-editing position. It is also not a role where coaches meet students occasionally, provide general career advice, and wait for students to return. Our Recruitment Coaches actively manage the recruitment journey, challenge students when necessary, coordinate resources, and help students maintain momentum until they are prepared to compete effectively in the U.S. job market.

Our Coaching Philosophy

Strategy gives students direction. Execution creates results.

Our goal is to combine professional recruitment expertise, structured accountability, individualized coaching, and ongoing support so that students are not navigating one of the most important transitions of their careers alone.
