Laborer - Recycling Center (Part Time) / Department of Public Works

HOURS: Friday 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM & Saturday 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Help keep Franklin clean, welcoming, and sustainable. Every item recycled helps build a stronger community. As a Recycling Center worker, you’ll play an important role in supporting the Town’s environmental initiatives while providing exceptional service to residents. Through teamwork, a commitment to safety, and hands-on work, you’ll help ensure the Recycling Center operates efficiently and remains a valuable community resource.

What You’ll Do

• Assist residents with the proper disposal and recycling of a wide variety of materials.
• Promote environmentally responsible recycling practice by answering questions and providing guidance.
• Inspect incoming materials to ensure they are sorted correctly and comply with facility requirements.
• Operate equipment such as compactors and other site equipment (register, payment terminal) safely and efficiently.
• Keep the Recycling Center clean, organized and operating smoothly.
• Load, unload, move and prepare recyclable materials for transport or processing.
• Monitor the site for safety hazards while maintaining a safe environment for all. Perform light maintenance, housekeeping, and seasonal duties - including snow removal, litter collection and grounds upkeep.
• Work collaboratively with the Department of Public Works team to provide outstanding customer service to Franklin residents.

What You'll Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment

The selected candidate must be able to pass a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug test.
