Referral Coordinator

Job Summary: This position contributes in the success of the company and outstanding patient care by obtaining all insurance referrals. As well as, following up on In-Bound/Out-Bound referrals as required by insurance companies dependent upon the plan coverage.

Essential Duties:

• Stay informed and self-educated regarding new procedures and insurance coverage.
• Corrects invalid or incorrect patient demographic information to ensure proper billing.
• Assists patients with questions or concerns regarding their insurance or account.
• Knowledge in how to check patient’s eligibility.
• Understanding how to obtain referrals through payer online portals.
• Contacting PCP offices to request Insurance referrals prior to patient appointments.
• Keeps management informed of changes in referral process, insurance policies, billing requirements, rejection, or referral conflicts upon obtaining.
• Accurately documents patient accounts of all actions taken.
• Establishes and maintains a professional relationship with all staff to resolve problems and increase knowledge of account management.
• Knowledge and understanding of co-insurance, co-payments, deductible, and out-of-pockets.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1 year of medical office experience (Cardiology preferred)
• Knowledge of insurance companies and their requirements
• Medical terminology
• Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
• Computer competency
• Type 40 wpm
• Work well in a team-oriented environment

Education:

• High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

• Medical office experience: 1 year (Preferred)
• ICD-10: 1 year (Preferred)
• Insurance verification: 1 year (Required)
