JOB DESCRIPTION

CLASSIFICATION: Refrigeration Technician

EFFECTIVE DATE: 9/18/2026

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: Non - Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for entire refrigeration system in the plant. Schedule and maintain all required maintenance on the system. Responsible/report to Maintenance Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties as assigned:

1. Maintain, service, repair, and overhauls industrial refrigeration equipment and auxiliaries including chillers, spirals, freezers and cooler Units

2. Maintains current operation and maintenance records on each unit of equipment

3. Replaces shaft seals and bearings

4. Lubricates and changes oil, filters, and belts

5. Cleans condenser tubes

6. Adjusts and regulates equipment to obtain desired temperatures

7. Installs, services, repairs, maintains, and overhauls related components such as compressor units, pumps, vacuum pumps, and purge/pump-out/reclaim equipment and systems

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Working knowledge of the principles and methods of ammonia refrigeration

2. Skill in the operation of the tools and equipment of the refrigeration trade.

3. Ability to interpret drawings, electrical, and mechanical drawings of refrigeration systems.

4. Ability to troubleshoot problems with the system.

5. 5+ years’ experience in operating and maintaining industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.

6. Certified – Reta, CRST operator 3 or Technician 1

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Physical Attendance is required - Remote is not optional.
