Refrigeration Technician

Position Overview

Stormberg Foods LLC is seeking a skilled and dependable Refrigeration Technician responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing industrial refrigeration, cooling, dehumidification, and temperature-control systems throughout our air-dried steak production facility. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the proper temperature, humidity, and airflow conditions within our specialized dryer rooms to ensure consistent product quality, food safety, and production efficiency. The ideal candidate must have strong experience with industrial refrigeration equipment, HVAC systems, electrical troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance, preferably within a food manufacturing or meat processing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Refrigeration Systems: Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial refrigeration, cooling, and HVAC equipment, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, motors, and refrigerant lines.
• Dryer Room Operations: Monitor and maintain proper temperature, humidity, and airflow in dryer rooms to ensure consistent air-dried steak production and product quality.
• Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, servicing, cleaning, and replacement of equipment components to prevent breakdowns and minimize downtime.
• Electrical & Mechanical Repairs: Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues, including motors, sensors, PLCs, VFDs, and automated control systems.
• Food Safety & Compliance: Follow USDA, FSIS, OSHA, SQF, GMP, EPA, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements to maintain safe and compliant operations.
• Emergency Repairs: Respond promptly to refrigeration and dryer room equipment failures to minimize production interruptions and food safety risks.
• Equipment Monitoring: Monitor refrigerant pressures, temperatures, humidity sensors, and system performance to identify and correct issues.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate maintenance records, report equipment concerns, and communicate repair updates to management.
• Production Support: Coordinate with Maintenance, Production, and Quality Assurance to ensure equipment operates within approved production parameters.
• Equipment Installation: Assist with installation, testing, and commissioning of new refrigeration and dryer room equipment, including coordination with outside contractors.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in HVAC, refrigeration, or industrial maintenance preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial refrigeration, commercial HVAC, or a related maintenance field preferred.
• Experience maintaining industrial refrigeration and temperature-controlled production environments.
• Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, compressors, evaporators, condensers, and cooling systems.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Understanding of temperature, humidity, airflow, and dehumidification systems.
• EPA Section 608 certification required for duties involving regulated refrigerant handling.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
• Ability to work independently and respond effectively to urgent equipment failures.

Pay: $49,000.00 - $69,000.00 per year
