The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall leadership, performance and profitability of the company’s operations across the Western and Eastern Cape. Overseeing the General Managers of the various branches, you will be responsible for driving commercial growth, operational excellence, service delivery and compliance across the region. The role requires a hands-on leader who conducts monthly on-site branch reviews to ensure each branch meets its financial, operational and customer-service targets while upholding the company's standards and values.

Responsibilities include:

Strategic & Regional Leadership:

  • Translating company strategy into clear regional plans and targets for each branch
  • Driving sustainable revenue growth, market-share expansion and new business development across the Western and Eastern Cape
  • Providing visible, decisive leadership and acting as the senior point of escalation for the region
  • Identifying commercial opportunities, competitor activity and market trends and responding accordingly

Branch Oversight & Operational Management:

  • Overseeing and supporting the General Managers to achieve their operational and financial objectives
  • Ensuring consistent service delivery, quality and operational standards across all five branches
  • Monitoring productivity, route efficiency, stock control, fleet usage and resource allocation at branch level
  • Resolving operational challenges and removing obstacles that hinder branch performance

Financial & Commercial Performance:

  • Taking full profit-and-loss accountability for the region, managing budgets, margins and cost control across all branches
  • Setting, monitoring and reviewing branch budgets, sales targets and expenditure
  • Analysing financial reports, identifying variances and implementing corrective action to protect profitability
  • Overseeing debtors, credit notes, fuel and overhead costs to ensure sound financial discipline
  • Providing leadership and oversight of the Regional Head Office finance function, comprising the Financial Manager and finance assistants responsible for the full regional financial administration and reporting function

People Leadership & Development:

  • Leading, coaching and developing the regional management team to build a high-performance culture
  • Setting clear performance expectations, conducting performance reviews and managing succession planning
  • Supporting recruitment, retention and skills development in partnership with Human Resources
  • Fostering employee engagement, discipline and adherence to company policies across the region

Compliance, Safety & Customer Relationships:

  • Ensuring all branches comply with legislative, health, safety, environmental (SHE) and industry standards
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key clients, retaining major accounts and resolving escalated issues
  • Representing the company professionally with customers, suppliers and regulatory bodies in the region

Monthly Branch Reviews:

A core requirement of this role is the completion of structured, on-site branch reviews at each of the five branches on a monthly basis. This requires regular travel across the Western and Eastern Cape.

During these reviews you will:

  • Assess each branch's financial, operational and service-delivery performance against targets
  • Review key metrics including sales, profitability, productivity, debtors, fleet and staffing
  • Meet with General Managers to agree action plans and follow up on previously raised issues
  • Conduct site, safety and quality inspections to ensure compliance and standards
  • Provide coaching, support and feedback to branch teams and report regional findings to the executive

Requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Business Management, Operations, Commerce or a related field (a postgraduate qualification would be advantageous)
  • Minimum of 8–10 years' senior management experience, including proven regional or multi-branch leadership
  • Demonstrated experience managing General Managers or senior operational managers across multiple sites
  • Track record of achieving financial, sales and operational targets in a service-driven environment
  • A valid driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly across the Western and Eastern Cape, including visiting Head Office in Johannesburg every second month.
