What they need
We are looking for a neuroaffirming behavioral specialist who can also take on a hands-on caregiver role for a wonderful family with two autistic boys, ages 5 and 7.
This family is looking for someone who genuinely presumes competence, is patient and curious, and can support the children while respecting their communication, autonomy, and individual needs.
About the Family
The boys are bright, funny, and full of personality, with a strong love of learning and being outdoors. Their parents are neuroaffirming and low-demand and place a high value on connection, communication, autonomy, and following the children's lead.
The family relies heavily on predictable routines, and time outside is an important part of helping the boys regulate and feel successful.
One of the boys particularly enjoys puzzles, spelling, and other activities that allow him to explore his interests and strengths.
What You'll Be Supporting
The family is looking for someone who can help support:
- Expanding the children's diets in a respectful, low-pressure way
- Communication and functional language
- Emotional regulation and co-regulation
- Following established routines and supporting transitions
- Getting outside and incorporating movement into their time together
- Supporting the children's goals while presuming competence and honoring their autonomy
This is not a traditional compliance-based behavioral position. The family is looking for someone who understands and embraces a neuroaffirming, low-demand approach.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- A behavioral specialist, behavior therapist, special educator, or similarly qualified professional
- Comfortable working directly with children while also providing caregiving support
- Neuroaffirming and committed to presuming competence
- Patient, creative, and genuinely curious about each child's communication style
- A self-starter who can recognize what needs to be done without constant direction
- Comfortable following routines while also being flexible when children's needs change
- Interested in collaborating with parents and other members of the children's team
- Open to learning from and collaborating with SLPs, OTs, and other specialists
- Comfortable taking initiative and bringing new ideas to the family
- Someone who sees caregiving as an opportunity to build relationships, communication, independence, and confidence
Schedule
