Registered Dental Assistant

Full Job Description:

The Unkechaug Nation Dental Clinic is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Dental Assistant to join our newly established tribal dental clinic. This is an exciting opportunity to help build a growing community-based dental program while making a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of our tribal members.

The clinic will initially focus on preventive and general dental care, with plans to expand into restorative and additional dental services as the program grows. We are seeking a dental assistant who values quality patient care, enjoys working collaboratively, and is interested in helping shape the future of a new dental clinic.

Position Details:

Part-Time (18 hours per week; 3 days per week, 6-hour shifts)

Independent Contractor (1099)

Not eligible for employee benefits

Responsibilities:

Chairside Assisting: Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures (e.g., restorative, endodontic, oral surgery, prosthodontic procedures).

Patient Care: Prepare patients for treatment, ensure their comfort throughout procedures, and provide post-operative instructions.

Sterilization & Infection Control: Maintain strict adherence to all OSHA and CDC infection control protocols, including sterilization of instruments and disinfection of operatories.

Radiography: Take and develop high-quality dental radiographs (X-rays) as prescribed by the dentist.

Clinical Support: Prepare and set up treatment rooms, maintain dental equipment, and manage dental supplies inventory.

Charting: Accurately record patient information, treatment plans, and progress in dental software.

Patient Education: Educate patients on oral hygiene, post-operative care, and treatment plans.

Administrative Support: Assist with scheduling appointments, answering phones, and confirming appointments.

Qualifications:

At least 2-3 years of dental assisting experience required.

Active NYS Infection Control and Radiation Health & Safety certifications

Active New York State Registered Dental Assistant license in good standing.

Proficiency with dental software (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft) and general computer skills.

Excellent communication and patient care skills.

Experience in public health, tribal health, or underserved populations preferred.
