Duties

• Assist dentists during various procedures including general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, and prosthodontics, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared and sterilized according to infection prevention management protocols.
• Take and develop dental x-rays, including intraoral and extraoral imaging, utilizing dental x-ray equipment and 3D scanners when applicable.
• Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic, ensuring accuracy in medical documentation, coding, and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to increase efficiency during patient treatments while maintaining aseptic technique standards.
• Conduct vital signs assessments and medical imaging procedures to support comprehensive patient evaluations.
• Process dental instruments following sterilization procedures, ensuring adherence to infection control policies and clinical confidentiality policies.
• Support administrative tasks such as greeting patients as a dental receptionist, scheduling appointments using patient management software, and managing patient flow to optimize clinic operations.
• Maintain dental equipment functionality and assist with the setup of specialized tools for procedures involving oral surgery or endodontics.
• Uphold healthcare infection prevention standards through proper infection control practices and dental sterilization procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid certification as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) or equivalent licensure in accordance with state or regional regulations.
• Proven experience in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and related specialties.
• Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic; familiarity with patient management software is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of dental terminology, medical terminology, anatomy knowledge related to oral structures, and dental assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry.
• Experience with dental x-ray techniques, including digital imaging and 3D scanning technologies.
• Knowledge of infection prevention management practices including aseptic technique and dental sterilization procedures.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages, including pediatrics; ability to explain procedures clearly while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team while managing multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
