What they need

Davenport Dental's unique, exceptional Dental Assistants are fundamental to our company and central to our mission of providing high quality dental care for the people of our community. You will have a team of Dentists, Hygienists, and Administrative personnel to support cohesiveness and continuity of care. And you will participate in professional growth and development to assure that you become the best version of yourself. Together we’ll be making dentistry more fun and less painful.

Values

Every person in our company shares these innate Values that they express every day:

CHARACTER VALUES

What it takes to be a good human:

Trust

  • We speak honestly and ask questions so that we can understand one another. We assume the best in people and do not judge.
  • We are open minded when a co-worker or leader communicates that we have made a mistake and openly share our feelings so that we can come to an agreement that is good for the whole practice
  • We count on professional work ethic such as being on time, doing our best and being honest to help each other so our patients feel that they can rely on us to provide them with accurate information and excellent treatment.
  • We are able to rely on one another to complete necessary tasks, maintain equipment and provide consistent payment options. We utilize correct and consistent handoffs to educate our patients and improve the patient experience, so we have improved word of mouth growth.

Humility

  • We have grown quickly in the past, but we recognize that there will always be challenges ahead to tackle.
  • We have learned to recognize each other’s roles and to share responsibilities. We believe that no matter what happens, we should always be respectful of everyone.
  • We celebrate our individual and team successes, yet we are not arrogant nor do we treat others differently from how we would want to be treated.
  • We carry ourselves with a quiet confidence because we believe that in the long run our character will speak for itself.

Compassion

  • We have intimate encounters with our patients that require caring, comforting and kindness
  • We drive patient loyalty with compassion and caring
  • We expect every doctor and employee to contribute to delivering an exceptional patient experience
  • We drive the continued growth of our practice through positive word of mouth by delivering a great patient experience

WORK VALUES

What it takes to work effectively and productively:

Growth

  • We think it’s important for employees to grow both personally and professionally. It’s important to challenge and stretch yourself, and not be stuck in a job where you don’t feel like you are learning and improving.
  • We believe that inside every employee is more potential than even the employee himself/herself realizes. Giving our employees the freedom to rise towards their potential creates confidence in informing, educating and discussing options with patients.
  • We grow because we take on new challenges, and we face even more new challenges because we’re growing.
  • We will do our best to “get it right”, and then do it again when we find out that things have changed.

Teamwork

  • We are committed to our teammates and will do what it takes to get the job done so that we can deliver quality care.
  • We take responsibility to honor processes, strengthen relationships, and achieve results
  • We communicate openly and honestly with each other, and acknowledge others for their help. We take pride in delivering quality handoffs so we can deliver a “wow” patient experience
  • We support the group decision, once made

PERSONAL VALUES

What you need to be happy and fulfilled:

Happiness

  • We want to be able to laugh at ourselves so we look for both fun and humor in our daily work.
  • We understand that our employees are more productive and valuable when they have happiness both at work and outside of work.
  • We want our employees to express their personality in their work.
  • We want the uniqueness in each of us to be expressed in our interactions with each other and with our patients.

Passion

  • We value passion, determination and perseverance. Passion is the fuel that drives ourselves and our practice forward.
  • We are inspired because we believe in what we are doing and where we are going. We are a knowledgeable team that enjoys working with each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We prepare through continuing education for utilizing the latest technology and equipment.
  • We believe in having a positive and optimistic (but realistic) attitude about everything we do, because we realize that this inspires others to have the same attitude.
  • We have excitement in knowing that everyone we work with has a tremendous impact on a larger dream and vision, and you can see that impact day in and day out.

A Day in the Life

As a Dental Assistant at Davenport Dental, a typical day might include any of the following:

  • Arriving at 7:50 am to check in on your schedule for the day and note any suggestions and/or opportunities
  • Huddling with your team to celebrate yesterday’s wins, address the suggestions and/or opportunities and prepare for today’s patients.
  • Personally strive to delight patients and families by creating a kind, gracious, and caring environment
  • Learn and perform scripts at each stage of the appointment to guide patients and explain our quality dental experience
  • Take, develop and mount accurate and high quality radiographs and photographs
  • Perform various laboratory duties including provisionals
  • Maintain patient confidentiality through HIPAA compliance
  • Verify and document patient’s health history in their chart appropriately
  • Clean, sterilize and prepare equipment, instruments and operatories
  • Follow all OSHA and BBP (Bloodborne Pathogen) federal guidelines
  • Track incoming and outgoing lab cases
  • Assist hygienist(s) when requested
  • Monitor level of dental supplies and order as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

This position might be for you if:

  • You love the people and culture of Laredo and South Texas
  • You want a practice that provides support through mentoring so that you can develop and improve your skills
  • You enjoy family friendly hours and no working on weekends
  • You resonate with a communication style that we call “tribal language” to present treatment options to patients so that it is not overwhelming to them and they appreciate the “why” for the needed treatment
  • You understand that case acceptance doesn’t necessarily happen today, but rather over time and only with a quality relationship in place first
  • You believe in getting better every day, and you are comfortable with sharing your specific professional goals
  • You love to have fun and you have tons of energy, and you share both with your team and patients
  • You are self-driven and will take initiative to improve processes to make Davenport Dental better
  • You are confident in your capabilities, yet you aren’t afraid to admit it when you don’t know the right way to do it
  • You love people and seek to develop lasting relationships with your patients and your team

This job isn’t for you if:

  • You resist change and believe that “my way” is always the best way
  • You don’t work well with a team. Our practice cannot be successful without every aspect of the team (front desk, assistants, hygienists, doctors and administrative) working together in unison to maximize workflow and efficiency
  • You are looking for a short-term job
  • You want to sit around and simply “punch the clock”
  • You don’t like committed relationships and you aren’t willing to put the needs of the patient and the practice first
  • You have difficulty finishing your duties of a procedure in a timely manner, because we emphasize on time appointments!

What Winning Looks Like:

How we will measure your performance:

  • It is not perfect, but the production of dentistry (in dollars) really aligns with how well we are delivering care to the population. We will be measuring performance daily, weekly and monthly, and we expect you to be comfortable with this and have a continual desire to improve outcomes.
  • Personally strive to delight patients and families by creating a kind, gracious, and caring environment
  • Learn and perform scripts at each stage of the appointment to guide patients and explain our quality dental experience
  • Deliver clinically excellent dental care through quality education and treatment. Assist dentists and hygienists in quality diagnosis through x-rays, verbal communication and other dental tests as directed
  • Help ensure efficient and profitable operations by seeking patient referrals, maintaining equipment, utilizing supplies cost effectively, and posting patient charges accurately
  • Promote a “team first” attitude by demonstrating positive and caring relationships and communication with coworkers

Deal Breakers:

All of the following are non-negotiable:

  • You must be a 100% Value Fit (see above)
  • You must commit to personal and professional growth. We are always trying to improve.
  • You must appreciate the value of the whole team. You will not be able to do this at this level by yourself.
  • You must desire the best for everyone around you!

Summary:

  • If you don’t really fit the description above, you won’t like working with us and we will both experience hardship and frustration. BUT, when the shoe fits, you can expect a life-changing experience that will change your perspective on your career and your standards for success. If you are a fit for Davenport Dental, WE NEED YOU to help us make the world smile.
