Registered Dietician

The Registered Dietitian (RD) provides evidence-based, holistic, and culturally relevant medical nutrition therapy to individuals and ʻohana throughout Maui. This role addresses food-related risk factors, chronic conditions, and social determinants of health while incorporating Native Hawaiian values, practices, ʻike Hawaiʻi, and local sustainable food systems.

What You’ll Do

• Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments and create individualized, culturally aligned care plans.
• Deliver one-on-one and group medical nutrition therapy for chronic disease prevention and management, including diabetes, cardiovascular health, and gut health.
• Teach participants and families practical food preparation, meal planning, and lifestyle strategies that emphasize local and indigenous foods.
• Use motivational interviewing and behavior-change approaches to support realistic, sustainable health goals.
• Develop and facilitate culturally appropriate community workshops, outreach events, and nutrition education programs.
• Partner with community organizations, schools, and local farmers to strengthen nutrition programming and food security initiatives.
• Help design and improve nutrition initiatives; contribute to participant-satisfaction assessment, grant reporting, outreach, and educational content.
• Oversee program-related food service operations, including nutrition standards, special dietary needs, food allergies, ingredient selection, and recipe compliance.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and maintain accurate, HIPAA-compliant clinical documentation.
• Serve as a nutrition resource for staff and community stakeholders while maintaining current clinical knowledge and standards of care.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field.
• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential and current Hawaiʻi license to practice, or eligibility to obtain licensure.
• Current BLS or CPR certification.
• Valid Hawaiʻi driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
• Experience in community or public-health nutrition and chronic disease management.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
• Ability to provide culturally responsive nutrition education, particularly with Native Hawaiian communities.

Preferred

• Master’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field.
• Knowledge of local food systems, Hawaiian values, and ʻāina-based health

practices.

• Health coaching certification or motivational interviewing training.
• Familiarity with ServSafe, food safety practices, and meal planning for special diets.

Work Environment

This office-based role includes regular community engagement throughout Maui in homes, farms, classrooms, and wellness centers. The position may involve outdoor work, variable weather, occasional inter-island travel, and periodic exposure to noise, moisture, odors, dust, and biological or chemical agents. An annual TB test is required; the hepatitis B series is recommended.
