What they need
Registered Manager – Children’s Residential Home
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and dynamic Registered Manager to lead our children’s residential home. This is a pivotal leadership role for someone who is passionate about creating safe, nurturing and aspirational homes where children and young people can heal, grow and thrive.
You will provide clear, child-centred leadership to the home, ensuring consistently high standards of care, safeguarding and regulatory compliance. You will lead and develop a committed team, promote positive relationships and create an environment where every child is listened to, respected and supported to achieve their potential.
Key responsibilities
- Hold overall responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and safe operation of the children’s home.
- Ensure the home is compliant with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements.
- Safeguard children and young people at all times, ensuring concerns, incidents and allegations are responded to appropriately, recorded accurately and escalated without delay.
- Lead, motivate, supervise and develop the staff team through recruitment, induction, training, reflective supervision and performance management.
- Ensure children have high-quality, individualised care plans, risk assessments and placement plans that reflect their needs, wishes, identity and aspirations.
- Promote therapeutic, trauma-informed and relationship-based care, supporting children who may have experienced trauma, disruption or instability.
- Maintain effective oversight of behaviour support, missing-from-care incidents, physical intervention, medication and safeguarding practice.
- Work constructively with social workers, families, education providers, health professionals, placing authorities and other external partners.
- Manage staffing, rotas, budgets and resources to ensure the home is stable, safe and effective.
- Ensure records, monitoring systems and quality-assurance processes are accurate, meaningful and used to continuously improve the service.
- Create a warm, welcoming and homely environment where children feel safe, valued and included.
About you
You will be a confident, caring and resilient leader with a strong understanding of children’s residential care and safeguarding. You will be able to balance high expectations with warmth, empathy and professional curiosity.
You will have:
- Previous experience managing or deputising within a children’s residential setting.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, risk management and children’s rights.
- Experience supporting children and young people with complex emotional, behavioural and mental-health needs.
- Experience leading, supervising and developing a staff team.
- Excellent communication, organisation and record-keeping skills.
- The ability to build positive professional relationships with children, families and multi-agency partners.
- A relevant Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or willingness and eligibility to work towards this in line with regulatory requirements.
- A commitment to inclusive, anti-discriminatory and child-centred practice.
This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and all safer-recruitment checks.
Join us and lead a home where children are not simply cared for, but genuinely known, supported and given the opportunity to flourish.
