Our aim is to support people to live as independently as possible while promoting choice, dignity, respect, wellbeing, safety and personal fulfilment.

Hazelcare is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and is committed to providing services that are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, compassionate and motivated Registered Manager to lead and develop our supported living services across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Somerset.

The Registered Manager will take responsibility for the safe and effective management of Hazelcare's regulated services and will ensure that care and support is delivered in line with CQC requirements, legislation, Hazelcare policies and best practice.

You will provide strong leadership to Coordinators and Support Workers while ensuring the people we support remain at the centre of everything we do.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the day-to-day delivery of Hazelcare's supported living services.
  • Ensuring services are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
  • Ensuring person-centred care and support plans reflect each person's individual needs, choices, goals and risks.
  • Overseeing support for individuals with mental health needs, learning disabilities, autism, substance misuse histories and complex support needs.
  • Ensuring safeguarding concerns are recognised, reported and managed appropriately.
  • Ensuring appropriate application of the Mental Capacity Act, consent requirements and relevant deprivation of liberty processes.
  • Maintaining appropriate systems for risk assessment and positive risk management.
  • Ensuring safe medicines management and monitoring medication practice.
  • Overseeing staff training, supervision, appraisal and competency assessments.
  • Ensuring staff are appropriately trained and assessed as competent before undertaking higher-risk support activities.
  • Monitoring incidents, accidents, safeguarding concerns, medication errors and other quality indicators.
  • Ensuring lessons are identified and improvements are made following incidents or concerns.
  • Managing staffing levels, rotas and deployment to ensure services are safely staffed.
  • Supporting recruitment, induction, supervision and development of staff.
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring care documentation is reviewed and updated.
  • Carrying out service audits, spot checks and quality assurance activities.
  • Supporting continuous improvement across Hazelcare services.
  • Working closely with service users, families, social workers, commissioners, local authorities, health professionals and other partner organisations.
  • Supporting individuals to maintain independence, access their communities and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Ensuring Hazelcare complies with relevant CQC regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Understanding and applying Duty of Candour, safeguarding responsibilities and good governance requirements.
  • Participating in an on-call system where required.

The successful candidate will be expected to either already hold appropriate CQC Registered Manager status or be suitable and willing to complete the CQC Registered Manager registration process.

You should have a good understanding of:

  • The Health and Social Care Act 2008 and relevant regulated activities regulations.
  • The Care Quality Commission (Registration) Regulations 2009.
  • Safeguarding adults.

  • Duty of Candour.
  • Person-centred care.
  • Risk management.
  • Medicines management.
  • Staff competency and safe workforce deployment.
  • Quality assurance, governance and continuous improvement.

You will need to demonstrate that you have the skills, experience, qualifications, values and leadership ability required to manage regulated services safely and effectively.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous management or senior leadership experience within supported living, social care or a similar service.

  • Has a strong understanding of CQC expectations and adult social care regulations.
  • Understands safeguarding, risk management and person-centred support.
  • Understands the Mental Capacity Act, consent and Duty of Candour.
  • Can confidently lead, motivate and develop a staff team.
  • Has experience with supervision, appraisals and staff competency management.
  • Has excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Is confident working with social workers, commissioners, health professionals and other external agencies.
  • Can manage competing priorities and remain calm under pressure.
  • Has a strong commitment to dignity, respect, equality, independence and individual choice.

  • Has experience of quality assurance, audits and service improvement.
  • Holds, or is willing to work towards, an appropriate management qualification such as the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care.
