What they need

Registered Manager

Our client is a small, welcoming children's residential home supporting children and young people with mild to moderate learning disabilities. The home is committed to safe, nurturing, child-centred care, and is looking for a Registered Manager to lead the home and its team.

About the role

As Registered Manager, you will hold overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the home. You will lead and develop the staff team, safeguard and promote the welfare of every child, and make sure the home meets the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements. You will be registered with Ofsted as the home's manager, and will be central to the home's culture, standards and outcomes for children.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day running of the home, maintaining a safe, caring and therapeutic environment.
  • Register with Ofsted as the home's Registered Manager, and meet the requirements of that role.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of every child, and lead the home's safeguarding practice.
  • Lead, supervise, support and develop the staff team, including recruitment, induction, supervision and appraisal.
  • Ensure high-quality care planning, risk assessment and record-keeping.
  • Ensure the home complies with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards, and is prepared for inspection at all times.
  • Complete the six-monthly quality of care review and respond to Regulation 44 monitoring.
  • Build effective working relationships with children, families, social workers, local authorities and other professionals.
  • Manage the home's resources and budget effectively.

What you will need (essential)

  • The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England), or an equivalent qualification; or a willingness to complete it within the required timescale after appointment.
  • At least two years' experience, within the last five years, in a role relevant to the residential care of children.
  • At least one year's experience in a role supervising and managing staff.
  • A strong working knowledge of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards, the Ofsted inspection framework and safeguarding legislation.
  • Proven leadership ability and a genuine commitment to child-centred care.
  • The right to work in the UK, and willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and full pre-employment safer-recruitment checks.

Desirable

  • The Level 5 Diploma already held in full.
  • Previous experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy Manager in a children's home.
  • Experience of Ofsted registration, inspection or service improvement.
  • Experience of supporting children with learning disabilities.
  • A full UK driving licence.

What we offer

  • A structured induction and ongoing professional development.
  • Support to complete the Level 5 Diploma where not already held.
  • A workplace pension.
  • The opportunity to lead a small, child-centred home and shape the quality of care.

Our client is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and full pre-employment checks.
