Registered Midwife

Education : A graduate of two (2) year course in Midwifery
Experience : At least one (1) year of related work experience but not required, fresh graduates may be considered.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Safe and Quality Nursing Care

• Identifies patients correctly using two (2) Patient Identifiers.
• Ensures availability of surgical inventories.
• Ensures sterility of instruments.
• Effectively anticipates the needs of the obstetrician before, during and after delivery.
• Secures specimens safely and labels accurately and correctly.
• Performs 5 moments of hand hygiene as may be indicated.
• Protects patients at risk for fall before, during and after delivery.
• Receives patients promptly and performs procedures on admitting outpatients.
• Transfers/transports patients safely to designated areas and hands him/her to the receiving unit.
• Carries out discharge orders promptly and effectively communicates health education and discharge instructions to outpatients and relatives.
• Performs initial patient assessment and reassessment using the prescribed form.
• Provides uniform care to all patients that meet their safety, comfort and hygiene needs.
• Provides specialized care for Obstetrics and Gynecologic patients.
• Ensures that newborn babies are immediately latched to mothers in compliance with MBFH initiative.
• Competently monitors patients under sedation.
• Performs the procedures on transcription process and safe drug administration.
• Performs basic infection control measures thru hand hygiene, use of PPE’s and proper waste disposal.
• Responds to disaster calls appropriately.
• Safely operates biomedical equipment necessary for patient care.
• Provide care and support to a laboring mother.
• Responsible for making sure that the emotional needs of the patient are adequately met throughout the entire birthing process.
• Monitors and records accurately Fetal Heart Rate.
• Monitors and records the progress of labor such as duration, frequency, intensity of contractions.
• Informs the physician and anesthesiologist (if applicable) if the patient is in active labor, if there are any physiologic changes or fetal distress.
• Ensures that the patient is in the proper position for delivery and that all monitoring equipment are functioning properly.
• Assist doctors in gowning, gloving, draping and hands instruments properly as needed during the birthing process.
• Encourage the patient to push and bear down at proper times.
• Record the time of birth, gender and fill out the DR record accurately.
• Perform post-operative care.

Communication

• Reads back and verifies received orders from authorized physicians according to the procedure on written, text and phone orders.
• Effectively endorses/hands over pertinent patient care data for continuity of care in every shift to shift endorsement from General Nursing Section to Specialized Area and vice versa; and General Nursing Section to Specialized Area to ancillary and vice versa.
• Effectively utilizes ISBAR tool when giving situational briefing to doctors.

Collaboration and Teamwork

• Recognizes the members of the healthcare team and understands their expectations from the nurses.
• Effectively coordinates and collaborates with surgeons and anesthesiologists through enhanced professional interaction.

Management of Resources and Environment

• Ensures accurate charging of all supplies used
• Observes the borrowing system
• Keeps his workplace clean and organized
• Economizes office supplies

Health Education

• Gives health education according to the patient/relatives learning needs.
• Ensures that confidentiality and privacy is provided in a respectful manner at all times.

Personal and Professional Growth

• Attends training programs and learning sessions for the enhancement of professional, technical, and personal proficiencies.

Records Management

• Data integrity is maintained and all information is kept with utmost confidentiality.
• Nursing documentation in the patient’s medical records are completed accordingly.

• Understands and delivers the key performance indicators expected from him.
• Contributes for quality improvement projects.

Customer Care

• Demonstrates attentiveness to customers and sensitivity to their healthcare needs.

Leadership at the Point of Care

• Demonstrate skills at the first level of clinical decision making.
• Effectively manages care of patients at the bedside.

Other function
