Job Overview

Duties

• Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed medical histories to inform diagnosis and treatment strategies.
• Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and other treatments following strict aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
• Manage acute pain, assist with complex procedures such as suturing, catheterization, and tube feeding while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
• Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation of patient care activities, medical records, and treatment plans.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care for diverse populations including those in long-term care, assisted living, hospice & palliative medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, and behavioral health.
• Conduct laboratory specimen collection/processing and perform diagnostic evaluations using advanced medical imaging techniques such as sonography or mammography when applicable.
• Lead patient education initiatives on health coaching, medication management, infection control practices, and discharge planning to empower patients in their recovery journey.

Requirements

• Valid nursing license (RN) in good standing with relevant state licensing boards.
• Proven experience in critical care environments such as ICU or Level I/II trauma centers; hospital medicine or emergency room experience is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical terminology for accurate documentation and billing purposes.
• Hands-on experience with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner; familiarity with Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to perform complex procedures including IV insertion, phlebotomy, sterile processing, ostomy care, and ventilator management.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges; knowledge of trauma medicine or infectious disease care is advantageous.
• Excellent communication skills for triage assessments, patient teaching, case management, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced settings such as urgent care centers or outpatient clinics; experience in home & community care is beneficial.
