Registered Practical Nurse (RPN)

Overview

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides compassionate, safe, and person-centered nursing care to patients across a range of care settings. The role involves assessing patient needs, supporting treatment plans, administering medications, and collaborating with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members. Care may include support for older adults, and people with acute, chronic, or complex health needs.

Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients’ health, document observations, and report changes to the appropriate members of the care team.
• Provide direct patient care, including assistance with daily needs, comfort, mobility, and pain management.
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with care plans, professional standards, and applicable policies and CNO.
• Support patients living with dementia and provide respectful, individualized senior care.
• Contribute to care planning and coordination, including case management and communication with patients, families, and community providers.
• Perform clinical procedures within scope and training, which may include urine and specimen collection.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and communicate clearly using medical terminology.
• Follow infection prevention, safety, privacy, and documentation requirements.
• Work collaboratively along side nurses, physicians, and other multidisciplinary team members in the long-term care, hospitals, clinics, assisted living, home care, and hospice.

Experience

• Current registration and good standing as a Registered Practical Nurse with the applicable regulatory body are required.
• Relevant nursing education and current certifications required for the role and care setting.
• Strong nursing fundamentals, communication skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to respectful, patient-centered care.
• Experience in one or more of the following settings or areas is an asset: nursing home experience, hospital experience, acute care experience, home care, assisted living experience, medical office experience, senior care, hospice care, dementia care, pediatrics, or experience working with children.
• Experience with medication administration, phlebotomy, laboratory experience, and pain management experience is beneficial.
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems such as Epic or Cerner is an asset.

Pay: From $28.00 per hour
