Registered Radiology Technologist - Casual

Starting wage: $38.80-52.91 per hour based on experience

Position Summary The Registered Radiology Technologist is responsible for providing quality diagnostic images for interpretation by a radiologist.

Responsibilities

• Identify patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients and others in a position to understand service requirements
• Gain patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, providing explanations of treatment and answering questions
• Prepare patient for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position, and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors
• Monitor and responds to changes in patient's physical condition, behaviours and level of consciousness
• Maintain production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures, developing radiographs, observing radiographic results and making necessary adjustments
• Minimize radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices and patient shielding
• Prepare patient for 12 and 15 lead ECG's and if recognized as abnormal brings to the attention of the physician
• Perform bone mineral densitometry examinations
• Apply ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
• Apply Holter monitoring
• Send images to HSN using PACS
• Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records
• Coordinate and book appointments
• Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs
• Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipate needed supplies, place and expedite orders and verify receipt of supplies.

• Report to the supervisor absent or defective equipment or protective devices
• Report the existence of hazards to the supervisor
• Not remove or make ineffective any protective devices without providing an adequate temporary protective device
• Operate equipment in a safe manner
• Not engage in horseplay
• Be familiar with procedures to be carried out in the event of a disaster (Emergency Preparedness Plans)

• Knowledge and proficiency in infant and pediatric procedures
• Ability to recognize normal and abnormal ECG’s
• Knowledge and proficiency in conducting a bone mineral densitometry scan
• Proficiency in computer software applications: Microsoft Platform, Meditech DI, Meditech Order Entry, Meditech
• Community Wide Scheduler, PACS, Spacelab, Holter Monitoring Software; Policy & Procedures platform and
• Learning Management System

Required QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Certifications, Experience, Licensure)

• Registration with the C.M.R.T.O.
• Willing to successfully complete a recognized course in Electrocardiology
• Previous experience in a hospital setting

Preferred

• Registration with the O.A.M.R.S. and C.M.R.T.
• Previous experience with E.C.G.’s, Holter Monitors, AGFA PACS system and Bone Mineral Densitometry
