What they need

Your Role at St John of God Midland Public & Private Hospitals

As a Surgical Registrar, you’ll have the opportunity to grow your skills, deepen your knowledge, and build confidence in a supportive and collaborative environment. You will gain valuable exposure to a diverse surgical case mix aligned with your stage of training, while working alongside some of Western Australia’s leading employed and visiting surgical specialists.

Fixed-term 12-month positions are available from February 2027.

St John of God Health Care is proud to be recognised as one of the top-performing healthcare providers in WA in the AMA Hospital Health Check report—standing out for our strong culture, positive morale, supportive working conditions, balanced rosters, and excellent access to leave.

The position

  • Manage patient care under the direction of consultants; boundaries of clinical responsibility must be defined at the commencement of each term or unit attachment and will depend on previous clinical experience.
  • Must seek assistance from a senior colleague/consultant if uncertain regarding any aspect of clinical duties.
  • Provide clinical supervision and teaching to junior staff.
  • Contributes to all aspects of clinical care of patients who are admitted to hospital; commit to a team approach in the delivery of care, working closely with nursing staff, allied health professionals, members of pastoral care services, and other clinicians both onsite and offsite.
  • Lead or supervise documentation (minimum daily) of all relevant details of the patients’ care while in hospital; admission history and examination, results of investigations, care plan, interdisciplinary consultation advice, follow-up plans.
  • Arrange and document results of investigations, including radiology, pathology, microbiology, haematology, biochemistry etc.
  • Commitment to after-hours roster as directed.
  • Liaises with on-call consultants regarding departmental concerns.

You will hold current registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) and bring a minimum of two years’ experience working within a clinical hospital setting. This foundation will enable you to confidently contribute to patient care while continuing to build on your clinical judgement and professional capability in a supportive environment.

You will have a strong interest in pursuing a career in surgical training, supported by relevant clinical exposure and practical procedural experience. Your experience will align with the responsibilities of a Registrar, enabling you to confidently manage patient care, assist in surgical and perioperative activities, and contribute positively to a collaborative surgical team while continuing to develop your skills.

Above all, people will be at the core of everything you do committing to and supporting our Mission and Values.
