JOB SUMMARY

The Reliability Engineer is responsible for supporting the effectiveness, organization, and continuous improvement of the plant maintenance and reliability program. The position serves as the primary owner and administrator of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), manages the preventive maintenance program, and develops the weekly maintenance schedule in coordination with Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering.

This role is responsible for ensuring maintenance work is properly identified, planned, prioritized, scheduled, documented, and closed out. The Reliability Engineer works closely with Maintenance Technicians, Operations leadership, Engineering, and vendors to improve maintenance execution, equipment reliability, and the transition from reactive maintenance toward a more planned, preventive, and reliability-focused maintenance organization. This role has a 20% R&D focus on advancing rubber processing technology, tooling design, and material efficiency.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Put the 4 Cornerstones of Manufacturing (Safety, Quality, Productivity and On Time Delivery) at the forefront by:

CMMS Administration and Management

  • Serve as the primary administrator and process owner for the plant CMMS.
  • Lead and support CMMS implementation, configuration, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Maintain accurate equipment and asset records within the CMMS.
  • Develop and maintain equipment hierarchies, asset classifications, locations, and equipment information.
  • Establish and maintain preventive maintenance schedules within the CMMS.
  • Maintain equipment maintenance history, work order records, parts information, technical documentation, and other asset-related information.
  • Develop and maintain standardized work order processes and expectations.
  • Ensure work orders contain appropriate information including equipment, failure descriptions, labor, parts, corrective actions, and completion details.
  • Audit work order quality and completeness and work with Maintenance personnel to improve documentation.
  • Develop CMMS reports and dashboards to monitor maintenance performance.
  • Train Maintenance and other applicable personnel in proper CMMS use and work order practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve CMMS functionality, reporting, workflows, and data quality.

Preventive Maintenance Program Management

  • Own and administer the plant preventive maintenance program.
  • Develop preventive maintenance tasks and procedures in collaboration with Maintenance Technicians, Engineering, equipment manufacturers, and Operations.
  • Establish appropriate PM frequencies based on equipment criticality, maintenance history, manufacturer recommendations, and operating conditions.
  • Review PM effectiveness and modify tasks and frequencies based on equipment performance and failure history.
  • Identify equipment that lacks adequate preventive maintenance coverage.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance activities are scheduled and completed within established requirements.
  • Monitor overdue PMs and coordinate corrective actions when maintenance activities are not completed as scheduled.
  • Eliminate unnecessary, duplicative, or ineffective PM activities.
  • Identify opportunities to transition appropriate maintenance activities from reactive to preventive or condition-based maintenance.
  • Support development of predictive maintenance programs where appropriate.

Maintenance Planning

  • Review incoming maintenance work requests and convert approved requests into properly defined work orders.
  • Clarify work scope prior to scheduling.
  • Identify labor, parts, tools, equipment, contractors, permits, and other resources required to complete maintenance work.
  • Develop job plans for repetitive, complex, or critical maintenance activities.
  • Estimate labor hours and resource requirements for planned work.
  • Ensure required replacement parts and materials are available before work is scheduled whenever practical.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing, suppliers, and vendors to obtain required maintenance materials and services.
  • Develop standard job plans for recurring maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a backlog of planned and ready-to-schedule maintenance work.

Weekly Maintenance Scheduling

  • Develop and publish the weekly maintenance schedule.
  • Coordinate maintenance priorities with Maintenance leadership, Production, Engineering, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate or support the weekly maintenance scheduling meeting.
  • Balance available maintenance labor against preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, projects, and production requirements.
  • Ensure scheduled work is appropriately prioritized based on equipment criticality, safety, production impact, quality impact, and business need.
  • Coordinate planned equipment downtime with Production.
  • Identify work that can be completed during scheduled production downtime, changeovers, shutdowns, or other maintenance windows.
  • Monitor schedule compliance and identify causes of incomplete scheduled work.
  • Reschedule incomplete work based on priority and operational requirements.
  • Improve schedule stability and reduce unnecessary changes to the weekly maintenance schedule.
  • Support longer-term shutdown and outage planning.

Work Order and Maintenance Backlog Management

  • Maintain and regularly review the maintenance backlog.
  • Categorize work based on priority, equipment criticality, status, and readiness.
  • Identify aging work orders and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • Ensure completed work orders are properly closed and documented.
  • Review work order history to identify recurring equipment issues.
  • Support prioritization of chronic reliability problems for corrective action.
  • Maintain visibility of outstanding maintenance commitments and communicate risks or delays to leadership.

Reliability and Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze maintenance and equipment performance data to identify reliability improvement opportunities.
  • Track recurring equipment failures and chronic maintenance issues.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for significant or repetitive equipment failures.
  • Support corrective actions intended to eliminate repeat failures.
  • Assist Engineering and Maintenance with equipment modification and reliability improvement projects.
  • Support equipment criticality assessments.
  • Participate in developing maintenance strategies for critical manufacturing equipment.
  • Assist with identification and management of critical spare parts.
  • Evaluate maintenance history to identify opportunities for improved equipment reliability, maintainability, and cost performance.
  • Support equipment commissioning, new equipment installations, and transition of new assets into the maintenance program.
  • Ensure new equipment is properly entered into the CMMS and appropriate PMs, spare parts, manuals, and documentation are established.

Maintenance Metrics and Reporting
