What they need
Relief Support Worker
Safe Breaks Devon CIC, Newton Abbot and surrounding area
Full time (37.5 hours) or part time (minimum 25 hours)
About us
We're a small, friendly team supporting adults to live well at home, enjoy their days and get out into their community. We run supported living properties, a day centre and community support across Newton Abbot and the surrounding area.
About the role
When our team members are on holiday or off sick, the people we support still need the same familiar, reliable care. That's where you come in.
As our Relief Support Worker, you'll cover across all our services rather than being based in one place. Over time you'll get to know everyone we support and every part of the team, so whoever you're with, you'll be a familiar face. If you enjoy variety and like the idea of no two weeks being quite the same, you'll fit right in.
What you'll be doing
Supporting people in line with their support plans, at home and out in the community
Helping with everyday living, personal care, meals and activities, and medication once trained
Driving to community visits and helping people get out and about
Catching up on handovers and support plans before each shift, so you're ready for the day
Keeping clear shift notes on our digital system,
Following our safeguarding, health and safety and lone working procedures
What to expect
We'd rather be upfront so you know exactly what the role involves:
Your shifts are planned for you. Rather than picking shifts, we allocate them as part of your contracted hours, based on where cover is needed.
The pattern changes. Your rota will include a mix of days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins, and sometimes split or shorter shifts.
You'll work across all our services: our supported living properties, the day centre and community support.
Your hours are annualised, so some weeks will be busier than others. We'll review your hours with you every quarter so everything stays on track.
Rotas come out four weeks ahead where possible. Occasionally we'll need you at shorter notice to cover sickness.
If you'd prefer the same routine every week, this probably isn't the right fit. If variety appeals, we'd love to hear from you.
What we offer
Guaranteed hours with a steady monthly wage, unlike zero-hours or bank work
Extra hours available if you'd like them
Sleep-ins paid at our flat rate
A full induction across every service, plus training including epilepsy awareness
Regular supervision and support from the team
5.6 weeks' paid annual leave
Workplace pension
What you'll need
A full UK driving licence and access to a car insured for business use
A reliable, flexible and calm approach
Care experience is helpful, but not essential. We'll give you the training
An enhanced DBS check and right to work in the UK
The role includes a six-month probation period, with regular check-ins along the way so you're supported from the start
Pay: £14.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Casual dress
- Company pension
- Paid training
- Sick pay
Work Location: In person
