At Bupa, purpose meets possible. Building a healthcare ecosystem that is connected, innovative, highly personalised and fiercely supportive of elder autonomy and dignity.

We are a global healthcare leader trusted by millions, committed to helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives and making a better world. Healthcare is changing rapidly, and Bupa is leading the charge. Here your work has purpose, your voice shapes change, and your future is full of possibility.

The purpose of this job

As Relieving General Manager, you will provide operational and strategic leadership for integrated care across the Care Home and Village site you temporarily oversee. You will lead culture, resident empowerment, digital adoption, clinical quality, and commercial performance.

This is a full-time, permanent role, ideally based in Wellington or Auckland. You will travel nationwide for varying lengths of time, working from different sites as needed. This may involve being away for several weeks or months at a time, typically returning home late Friday and travelling back Sunday evening or Monday morning.

Success will come through your ability to:

  • Lead Culture & Autonomy: Championing a culture that balances compassionate, person centred care with high performance, giving residents a real voice and control over their loving environment.

  • Modernise Care Delivery: Integrating dynamic digital platforms, modern care product pipelines, and data informed systems to improve quality of life and clinical outcomes.

  • Build Future Capability: Fostering a high-performing site leadership team, upskilling staff, and building and adaptable workforce ready for the future of healthcare.

  • Sustainable Outcomes: Delivering continuous improvement across operational performance, resident experience, safety, and commercial success.

What you’ll need to make it possible

Be an innovative, empathetic, and courageous executive leader with a proven track record of elevating culture, and business performance within complex service environments.

You are known for:

  • Focused Leadership: Navigating change with optimism, inspiring high performing teams, and bring staff, residents and whānau along on the journey to modernise aged care.
  • Creating Trust & Accountability: Leading with transparency and empathy creating strong alignment, clear expectations and psychological safety.
  • Strategic Execution: Balancing big picture strategic thinking with operational rigour, remaining calm, resilient, and solutions focussed under pressure while driving business growth.
  • Commercial and Operational Governance: Managing site performance with financial acumen, balancing revenue growth, occupancy optimisation, and resource allocation with uncompromised quality of care.
  • System Leadership: Viewing the care home and village ecosystem holistically, integrating new tools, care technologies and streamlined processes to enhance efficiency and resident autonomy.
  • Courageous & Authentic Communication: Navigating complex human dynamics and having challenging conversations with fairness, clarity, and consistency to uphold standards.
  • Community Advocacy & Influence: Serving as a strong brand ambassador, building trusted relationships with local healthcare providers, regulatory bodies, and the broader community.

Why you’ll love it?

At Bupa, we believe great leadership transforms lives. You will join a collaborative regional leadership network, backed by a global organisation committed to pioneering new standards in senior health and wellbeing.

  • Access to Bupa Campus – your go-to space for global learning and development.
