What they need

MANDATORY COMPENSATION & RESIDENCY NOTICE:

This position is 100% work-from-home/remote. However, because our federal contracts are subject to strict wage guidelines under the Service Contract Act (SCA), compensation is strictly capped at an all-inclusive package of $25.00/hour (inclusive of base wage, mandatory Health & Welfare cash-in-lieu fringe benefits, and federal holiday buffers).

Due to these rigid federal wage determination limits, we are utilizing this listing to build our candidate pool exclusively for applicants who permanently reside in the state of Mississippi.

Position Overview:

Recruital is building a robust pool of certified, remote Medical Coding Specialists to support upcoming task orders across our federal healthcare contracts with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) nationwide. We are establishing an active pipeline of qualified professionals for upcoming placements throughout 2027.

The production workload patterns follow standard VHA Integrated Staffing distributions, typically consisting of roughly 75% Outpatient/Ambulatory encounters and 25% Inpatient Facility charts. We are building our talent pool across two specialized tracks:

TRACK A: Outpatient Specialty Coder

  • Required Credentials: Active CPC or COC (AAPC), or CCS-P (AHIMA).
  • Experience: Minimum 2+ years of progressive healthcare coding experience.
  • Productivity Baseline: Capability to accurately process 30 outpatient charts or 7 surgical charts per day following facility orientation.

TRACK B: Inpatient Facility Specialist

  • Required Credentials: Active CCS (AHIMA) or CIC (AAPC).
  • Experience: Minimum 2+ years of dedicated inpatient hospital facility coding utilizing ICD-10-PCS and complex MS-DRG grouping models.
  • Productivity Baseline: Capability to accurately process 3 complex inpatient facility charts per day following facility orientation.

Mandatory Requirements (All Tracks):

  • Core Knowledge: Proven, active experience navigating electronic health records (EHR) and utilizing standard coding reference software. Prior experience within a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) network is a plus, but is not required. Full system-specific software orientation and module training will be provided by the locating facility upon project assignment.
  • Federal Compliance: Must be a U.S. Citizen physically residing in the United States and capable of successfully passing a federal Tier 1 / Low-Risk Background Investigation (NACI) to clear system access.
  • Quality Threshold: Must maintain an audited performance baseline of 95% or higher coding accuracy.

Compensation & Hours:

  • Fully compliant with the Service Contract Act (SCA), flat at $25.00/hour (all-inclusive package).
  • Fixed Hours: 40 hours per week upon active task order placement.
  • Typical core schedules during initial facility onboarding follow a standard 08:00–16:30 Tour of Duty (aligned with the assigning facility's local time zone), available via Microsoft Teams. Post-training production scheduling offers flexible hours.

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Benefits:

  • Paid time off

Application Question(s):

  • Do you hold a current, active coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA (such as a CPC, COC, CIC, CCS, or CCS-P)
  • Are you a United States Citizen currently residing within the United States, and are you willing to undergo a federal Tier 1 / NACI background check and fingerprinting
  • This position is subject to strict federal wage guidelines under the Service Contract Act (SCA). Are you willing to accept a flat, contract-mandated compensation package of $25.00/hour (all-inclusive of base wage and Health & Welfare benefits)
  • Do you possess at least two (2) years of progressive healthcare coding experience in either an outpatient clinic or an inpatient hospital setting
