What they need

About Us

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (Sunrise) is an Aboriginal community-controlled, not-for-profit health service supporting communities across the Big Rivers region of the Northern Territory.

At Sunrise, our work is guided by respect, cultural safety, and strong relationships with community. Everything we do is grounded in listening, learning, and working alongside the people we serve to improve health and wellbeing in a way that is meaningful and culturally safe.

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Registered Nurse passionate about education, mentorship and building the next generation of remote nurses?

Sunrise Health Service is seeking a Nurse Educator to lead the Big Rivers Graduate Nurse Program, supporting new nurses as they transition into remote primary healthcare.

Based in Katherine, with travel to remote communities, you’ll provide clinical leadership, education and hands-on mentoring to help graduates develop the confidence, skills and cultural awareness needed to deliver safe, high-quality care in remote settings.

Working collaboratively with Sunrise Health Service, Katherine West Health Board and Wurli-Wurlinjang Aboriginal Health Service, you’ll play a key role in developing a skilled, confident and sustainable remote nursing workforce.

Key Responsibilities

As the Nurse Educator, you will:

  • Lead and coordinate the Big Rivers Graduate Nurse Program across partner health services.
  • Deliver structured education, clinical link-ups, supervision and coaching tailored to remote primary healthcare.
  • Assess and validate clinical skills and support safe, effective patient care.
  • Mentor and support graduates and staff in their professional development and AHPRA obligations.
  • Create a supportive learning environment that builds confidence, resilience and reflective practice.
  • Promote strengths-based, trauma-informed and culturally safe models of care.
  • Support quality improvement, clinical governance and best-practice standards.
  • Contribute to workforce development, graduate retention and long-term career pathways in remote nursing.

About You

You’re an experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for clinical education, mentoring and remote primary healthcare. You bring strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills and a genuine commitment to culturally safe care.

You will bring:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Extensive primary healthcare experience, ideally within Aboriginal community-controlled or remote settings.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and supporting students or graduate nurses.
  • Strong clinical skills and the ability to model and teach high-quality care.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills.
  • A current NT C Class driver's licence and ability to undertake remote travel.
  • A relevant clinical education or training qualification, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge.
  • An understanding of Aboriginal community control and the principles of remote primary healthcare.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.

What We Offer

At Sunrise, we care for our nurses and midwives as much as we care for our communities. You'll be supported with:

  • Competitive remuneration and salary packaging options.
  • Generous leave entitlements.
  • Relocation assistance to help you settle into the region.
  • Ongoing professional development, mentoring, and career progression opportunities.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact while experiencing the unique lifestyle and landscapes of the Northern Territory.

How to Apply

If this sounds like the kind of nursing or midwifery career you want to be part of, we'd love to hear from you.

Please submit:

  • Your current CV.

Important Information - Visa sponsorship is not available. Applicants must hold full Australian working rights.

Why Join Sunrise?

This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact—not only on the nurses you mentor, but on the future of healthcare across remote Aboriginal communities.
