Research Accounting Specialist

Summary:

The Research Accounting Specialist is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records, overseeing complex accounting activities, and supporting financial close processes. This role plays a key part in performing advanced reconciliations, preparing financial analyses, improving accounting processes, and providing guidance to accounting staff.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and execute month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
• Prepare and review journal entries for accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, revenue recognition, and other complex transactions.
• Conduct and review complex account reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and maintaining supporting schedules for key accounts.
• Analyze financial results, identify variances, and perform detailed trend and variance analyses to support management decisions.
• Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances, coordinate settlements, and assist with cash management activities.
• Support audit requests by preparing schedules and documentation, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
• Identify and implement process improvements, assist with ERP system enhancements, and develop accounting procedures and documentation.
• Participate in special projects and strategic finance initiatives, collaborating effectively across departments.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• CPA designation preferred.
• 1-2+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience in multi-entity or multi-location accounting environments preferred.
• Public accounting experience is a plus.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
