Remote School School Substitute Teacher

West 40 Intermediate Service Center is looking for an substitute remote school teacher for our remote school students. The remote school serves 4th through 12th grade students in the West Cook region of Chicago that cannot attend in-person instruction due to a medically and/or emotionally fragile situation. This teaching position would be a multi-age virtual classroom of students.

Job Goal

As a Remote Substitute Teacher, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a positive and productive learning environment for students in virtual classrooms. Your responsibilities include facilitating pre-designed lesson plans, managing online discussions, and providing support to students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Utilizing virtual platforms, you will engage students, monitor their progress, and ensure a seamless transition in the remote learning environment. Flexibility, adaptability, and strong communication skills are essential to effectively navigate the virtual classroom and provide a valuable educational experience for students. You must also have access to a computer, high-speed internet, and phone connection.

• Duties

Facilitate Virtual Classes: Conduct online classes using Zoom, following pre-established lesson plans provided by the absent teacher.

• Engage Students: Foster a positive and inclusive virtual learning environment by actively engaging students in discussions, answering questions, and providing necessary support.
• Manage Online Classroom: Oversee the virtual classroom, including attendance tracking, monitoring student behavior, and ensuring a smooth flow of the virtual learning session.
• Adapt to Curriculum: Familiarize yourself with the provided curriculum materials and adapt teaching strategies to meet the specific needs of the remote learning environment.
• Communication: Maintain clear and timely communication with students and school staff through virtual channels, addressing any concerns or inquiries promptly.
• Technology Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in using online educational tools and platforms to deliver lessons, share resources, and assess student progress.
• Support Individual Learning: Provide individualized assistance to students as needed, addressing questions, concerns, or difficulties with the assigned coursework.
• Report Writing: Submit comprehensive reports on the day's activities, student participation, and any notable issues to ensure continuity for the regular teacher.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with fellow educators and school staff to ensure a cohesive and effective remote learning experience for all students.
• Flexibility: Adapt to unexpected changes, including potential modifications to lesson plans, technology challenges, or other unforeseen circumstances inherent in the remote teaching environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Specifications
Illinois Substitute License or Professional Educator License (required - Sub license can be acquired for out-of-state substitutes)

At least 1 year experience working as a teacher in an educational system with a focus on social, emotional, and behavioral supports strongly preferred. Virtual teaching experience a plus.

Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues, young adults, and community members.

Pay: From $125.00 per day
