What they need

Senior Aerospace Software Engineer – Backend-Leaning Full Stack

Location: Remote within the United States

Travel: Limited, approximately 0–10%

Employment: Full-time

Citizenship: Eligibility to obtain a U.S. government security clearance.

We are partnering with a growing aerospace software and engineering company to hire a Senior Aerospace Software Engineer. You will join a close-knit services team supporting mission-critical government and commercial space programs.

This is a developer-first role for someone who combines strong software fundamentals with practical space-domain experience. You will take ownership of an existing development workstream, become a trusted technical resource for the program, and contribute to internal products and future customer projects.

The work is expected to be approximately 70% backend and 30% frontend . The current environment includes Python, C/C++, Node.js, Angular, and React, but the team values engineering fundamentals and learning agility more than an exact technology match.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and maintain backend-heavy, full-stack aerospace applications.
  • Take ownership of an existing program and grow into its development subject-matter expert.
  • Build reliable software supporting space-mission, ground-system, and operational workflows.
  • Contribute across design, development, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Work with internal engineers, prime contractors, partner developers, and technical customers.
  • Translate operational and customer requirements into effective software solutions.
  • Support internal development and additional government or commercial programs.
  • Balance multiple projects and adapt as priorities evolve within a small team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Approximately five or more years of professional software-development experience.
  • Strong software-engineering fundamentals and experience delivering production-quality applications.
  • Backend development strength with some frontend capability.
  • Professional experience with Python and one or more additional languages.
  • Experience working across APIs, databases, cloud-hosted applications, or distributed systems.
  • Practical experience within the space or satellite industry.
  • Familiarity with space-mission, spacecraft-operations, ground-system, simulation, TT&C, or flight-dynamics workflows.
  • Ability to independently learn an existing system and assume meaningful technical ownership.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating with external engineering teams and customers.
  • Willingness to wear multiple hats and work beyond a narrowly defined job description.

Particularly Relevant Experience

  • Python, C/C++, Node.js, JavaScript, or TypeScript
  • Angular or React
  • AWS or comparable cloud platforms
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • CI/CD and DevOps workflows
  • Ground-segment or mission-operations software
  • Telemetry, commanding, scheduling, simulation, or mission-planning applications
  • Government space or defense programs
  • Startup, consultancy, or small-team experience
  • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance

Why Consider It?

  • Fully remote within the United States
  • 25 person might team
  • High ownership and visibility within a small engineering team
  • Opportunity to become the development SME for an active space program
  • Exposure to multiple government and commercial missions
  • Backend-heavy work with room to expand across the full stack
  • Minimal travel
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • $2,400 annual employer HSA contribution
  • 401(k) with company matching
  • $100 monthly internet and phone reimbursement

Candidates near Huntsville, Alabama, are especially encouraged to apply due to potential future program needs, but the search is open across the United States.
