Renewable Energy Development Director

CONFIDENTIAL — We are conducting a confidential search for a Renewable Energy Development Director to lead the origination, development, and delivery of utility-scale renewable energy projects across Southern Africa. This is a high-impact, director-level opportunity based in Cape Town on a hybrid model for a senior energy development leader who will own the end-to-end project lifecycle from site identification and permitting through to financial close, construction oversight, and commercial operation.

In this role, you will lead the development pipeline for solar PV, onshore wind, battery storage, and green hydrogen projects. You will manage the REIPPPP (Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme) bid process, structure project finance and PPA negotiations, and oversee environmental impact assessments and regulatory permitting. You will build and manage relationships with Eskom, NERSA, DMRE, and municipal off-takers, cultivate partnerships with EPC contractors and technology providers, and ensure rigorous ESG integration across all development activities.

Nice to have

• Direct experience with REIPPPP bid rounds (Rounds 5-7)
• Track record in South African energy regulatory engagement (NERSA, DMRE)
• Experience with green hydrogen or offshore wind development in Africa
• Familiarity with South African B-BBEE requirements for energy projects
• CFA or equivalent professional qualification
