What they need
We are conducting a confidential search for a Renewable Energy Development Director to lead greenfield solar and wind project development for an energy organisation based in Madrid, working hybrid. Spain's solar and wind pipeline remains among the largest in Europe, and this is a director-level opportunity for a development leader who can take projects from land origination through to ready-to-build.
In this role, you will own the development pipeline across solar PV and onshore wind projects, lead land acquisition and option negotiation strategy, and direct the environmental impact assessment and permitting process through Spanish regional and national authorities. You will manage grid connection applications with Red Eléctrica de España (REE), lead power purchase agreement (PPA) origination and negotiation with corporate offtakers, and oversee interconnection and capacity allocation strategy across priority regions.
You will build and lead a team of development managers and permitting specialists, partner with legal, finance, and engineering teams on project bankability and financial close readiness, and represent the development pipeline to investment committees and joint venture partners. You will also lead community and landowner engagement across development regions.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Spanish renewable permitting and REE grid connection processes
- Background negotiating corporate PPAs with international offtakers
- Track record taking projects from origination to financial close
- Experience with environmental impact assessment under Spanish/EU regulation
- Familiarity with capacity auction and interconnection allocation mechanisms
