Harvest Blue is looking for an experienced hands-on Plumbing & Heating Engineer to join our growing installation team.

The most important requirement for this role is a strong background in plumbing, wet heating systems and heating installation. You should be comfortable carrying out pipework, installing radiators, cylinders, underfloor heating and plant rooms, and working independently to a high standard.

This is initially a hands-on installation role rather than a management or supervisory position. We are looking for someone who wants to be on the tools and involved in the physical installation of heating systems on a day-to-day basis.

However, we are looking for someone who can grow with the business. Our intention is for the right person to progress into a supervisory and eventually managerial position over time, taking greater responsibility for installations, other engineers, quality control and project delivery as the team expands.

Heat pump experience is useful, but we are particularly interested in good heating engineers who want to develop further into renewable heating and HVAC.

The role

Day-to-day work will include:

  • Plumbing and heating installation
  • Copper and plastic pipework
  • Radiator installation and alteration
  • Underfloor heating systems
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Plant room installation and alterations
  • Air source heat pump installation
  • Heating system upgrades and conversions
  • Pumps, valves, controls and associated heating components
  • Filling, flushing and commissioning systems
  • Fault finding and remedial plumbing/heating work
  • Working from heating designs and installation drawings

You will work across a mixture of domestic and light commercial projects in London and the surrounding areas.

Essential experience

Applicants should have:

  • Strong practical plumbing and heating experience
  • Hands-on experience installing wet central heating systems
  • Good knowledge of heating pipework, radiators, cylinders and associated components
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing & Heating, or equivalent practical experience
  • Good fault-finding skills
  • The ability to carry out neat, high-quality installation work
  • Confidence working independently as well as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence
  • A professional attitude when working in customers' homes and businesses

We are specifically looking for someone whose background is primarily plumbing and heating installation.

Desirable but not essential

Experience or qualifications in any of the following would be useful:

  • Air source heat pumps
  • Gas Safe qualifications
  • Unvented hot water / G3
  • Air conditioning
  • F-Gas
  • Heating controls
  • Commissioning heat pump systems
  • Renewable energy systems

Air-conditioning experience is an advantage, but it is not a substitute for plumbing and wet-heating experience for this particular role.

Career progression

This role has been created with progression in mind.

Initially, the focus will be on hands-on installation work and becoming a key member of the engineering team. As the company and installation team grow, we would like the successful person to take on increasing responsibility.

For the right person, this could develop into responsibilities such as:

  • Supervising other engineers and subcontractors
  • Leading installations on site
  • Checking installation quality and standards
  • Coordinating labour and materials
  • Supporting and training less experienced engineers
  • Overseeing commissioning and handover
  • Helping manage multiple installation projects
  • Eventually moving into a broader supervisory or management role

We therefore want someone who is happy being on the tools now, but also has the ambition and ability to progress into a leadership position in the future.

Future development

Harvest Blue works across a range of building services and renewable technologies including:

  • Heat pumps
  • Plumbing and heating
  • Solar PV
  • Air conditioning
  • MVHR
  • Heating controls and home automation

There will be opportunities to develop your knowledge and qualifications across these areas as the company grows.

We are a new business backed by years of industry experience and an existing customer base, and we are looking for someone who wants to become a key part of the installation team and grow with the company.

When applying, please give a brief overview of your hands-on plumbing and heating experience, including the types of heating systems and installations you have personally worked on.

Pay: £40,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
