For more than 275 years, The Press and Journal has been at the heart of communities across the north and north-east of Scotland, telling the stories that matter and championing the people, places and issues that shape the region.

We're looking for an experienced Reporter to join our Live team in Aberdeen, helping deliver high-quality digital journalism that informs, engages and grows audiences across our platforms.

Based in our modern Marischal Square office, you'll play a key role in breaking news, developing exclusive stories and delivering engaging content that keeps readers connected to what matters most in their communities.

If you're naturally curious, thrive in a fast-paced news environment and have a passion for great local journalism, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

As a Reporter in our Live team, you will:

  • Deliver a consistent flow of relevant, accurate and audience-focused content including news stories, live blogs, explainers and video.
  • Break news quickly and confidently, taking ownership of major stories as they develop.
  • Identify and pursue original story opportunities, follow-ups and exclusives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with contacts, public bodies, emergency services and key community stakeholders.
  • Film pieces to camera for our app and social media channels.
  • Use audience data, analytics and SEO best practice to maximise reach and engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the newsroom, sharing ideas, contacts and opportunities.
  • Support our audience-first approach by producing journalism that informs, engages and drives meaningful impact.

What we're looking for

You'll be an experienced reporter with:

  • Strong news judgement and a clear understanding of what makes a compelling story.
  • A proven track record of identifying, breaking and developing major stories.
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to produce engaging content across digital platforms.
  • Experience using analytics and SEO to inform editorial decisions.
  • The confidence to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong contact-building skills and a proactive approach to sourcing stories.
  • A sound understanding of Scots Law, the Editors' Code of Practice and responsible journalism.
  • The ambition to compete for stories and grow audience through timely, accurate reporting.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
