Research Agronomist

Westgate Labs is seeking an experienced Research Agronomist with at least five years’ relevant experience to manage and deliver agricultural field trials in Queensland.

We are an independent laboratory and field research business with OECD GLP accreditation for both Laboratory analysis and Field Trials. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of research projects, work closely with clients and growers, and contribute to practical agricultural research.

About the role

You will oversee trials from site selection and establishment through to data collection and reporting, ensuring work meets trial protocols, quality requirements and project deadlines.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Identifying suitable trial sites and building relationships with growers and landholders.
• Planning and managing field trials, including efficacy, crop safety and residue studies.
• Coordinating trial establishment, treatment applications, assessments and sampling.
• Maintaining accurate trial records and ensuring data integrity.
• Analysing results and preparing trial reports.
• Managing project schedules, equipment and resources across multiple trials.
• Communicating with clients and the Westgate Labs laboratory and research teams.
• Following relevant safety procedures, quality systems and GLP requirements.

About you
We are looking for someone who has:

• A degree in Agricultural Science, Agronomy or a related discipline.
• Five or more years’ experience in agronomy, agricultural research or field trial management.
• Strong knowledge of crop production, trial design and field assessment techniques.
• Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage several projects independently.
• Strong attention to detail in record keeping, data collection and reporting.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships with clients and growers.
• A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to trial sites throughout Queensland.

GLP trial experience is desirable but not essential. Applicants with strong field research experience and a willingness to learn GLP processes are encouraged to apply.
