Research And Development Technician

The R&D Technician will operate from the Global Riser facility. The position includes a structured development programme covering relevant R&D and testing equipment, together with Global Riser’s systems and processes, in accordance with applicable client, industry and offshore requirements. The employee will be supervised by Mechanical Engineers, Project Engineers, and Management. He/she will be an enthusiastic, efficient, self-starting, committed individual with an ability to assess and make decisions quickly, who can think practically and innovatively, with an ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibility:

1. Complete Global Riser and external (when specified) training as required.

2. Shadow the applicable Engineers, in order to gain a fundamental understanding of the

R&D and Seal Testing requirements & Equipment to be tested.

3. Perform Engineering R&D testing on Equipment (Primary function).

4. Perform Quality Control on Equipment.

5. Assist Engineers in Admin tasks.

6. Assist in the Compilation of Engineering Documents, such as Manuals, Procedures, BOM’s,

QCP’s and Works Instructions, with Minor/Basic Manufacturing Drawings;

7. Assist in all technical functions when required.

8. Carry out a variety of work as directed, if authorized for such task.

9. Carry out equipment set up, packing, repair, maintenance when required.

10. Always ensure a safe working environment.

11. Due to some testing requirements, additional hours will be required, however this is not

the expected norm.

Qualifications and Experience:

1. No formal tertiary education or experience is required, however a relevant technical

qualification (eg N4, N5) would be advantageous.

2. Any training and/or experience relevant to the field, would be advantageous.

3. Basic CAD experience, SolidWorks is preferable.

4. Previous pressure testing experience using local and/or international practices would be

advantageous.

5. Previous experience in Quality Control and/or metrology would be advantageous.

Skills:

The following are the minimum skills required to perform the function:

1. A good level of English, both written and oral.

2. A good knowledge of the MS Office suite.

3. Good written communicator (email; technical report writing).
