Job Summary

Reporting to Abhishek Jha, Assistant Professor- Information Management and Analytics

Job duties include Maker Lab at SPJIMR is a studio-style lab designed for AI, Generative AI and Agentic AI activities. It supports faculty research, builds AI prototypes and artifacts for teaching, and helps the Institute solve automation problems using AI.

Important Note: This is an internship with a possible PPO for final year Bachelors and master's students and is designed as a pre-doctoral or pre-MS experience for those who wish to pursue research careers. The position is based in Mumbai and is not a remote role. Interns are expected to work from the Mumbai campus regularly, if not daily. Multiple positions are available. Top performing interns may be considered for a full-time confirmed role in Maker Lab.

The Research Assistant will work with Maker Lab and support faculty and the Institute in AI-related research, teaching and automation tasks, including but not limited to:

• Assist faculty members with AI, Generative AI and Agentic AI research, including literature search, data collection, experiment design, coding, analysis and preparation of results
• Design, develop and test AI prototypes, web interfaces and artifacts for teaching and research use
• Build and maintain AI prototypes, tools and demonstrations for Maker Lab, Agentic AI and other AI courses across the PGP courses at the Institute, including short-term programmes and MDPs
• Identify and solve automation problems across the Institute using AI, and make administrative and academic processes more efficient
• Develop and support solutions on both software and network sides, and provide basic support on computer hardware where required
• Document code, datasets, prototypes and workflows so that they can be reused by faculty, students and other Maker Lab members
• Support Maker Lab sessions, workshops and demonstrations, including setting up environments and assisting participants
• Keep abreast of developments in AI tools, frameworks and models and recommend suitable ones for the Institutes needs
• Any other work related to Maker Lab assigned by Maker Lab

Experience: No prior work experience is required. Relevant project, internship or research experience in AI/ML or software development will be an advantage.

Requirements

• Final year Bachelors or master's student (or recent graduate) in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, Mathematics, Statistics or a related discipline
• Strong programming and development background, with sound knowledge of at least one programming language (preferably Python) and of data structures
• Working knowledge of AI, Generative AI and Agentic AI concepts and tools
• Fluency in written and oral communication in English
• Strong interest in a research career, including pursuing a master's or PhD later
• Projects, hackathons or publications related to AI, Gen AI or Agentic AI (a portfolio or GitHub profile will be considered)
• Strong knowledge of quantitative methods, machine learning and statistics
• Experience with LLM APIs, retrieval-augmented generation, multi-agent frameworks and cloud deployment

Education

Final year B.Tech/B.E. or M.Tech/M.Sc. in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, Mathematics, Statistics, Electronics or other related disciplines from reputed institutions
