What they need

Center for Latino Adolescent and Family Health at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing

Title of Position: Research Project Manager

The Center for Latino Adolescent and Family Health’s (CLAFH’s) mission is to eliminate health inequities and promote overall wellbeing among Latino adolescents and their families. While our work is Latino-focused, our research and resources are applicable to initiatives aimed at ending inequities for other groups. CLAFH’s core work focuses on developing, evaluating, and disseminating family-based interventions and nurse-driven models of health care delivery designed to mitigate harmful social determinants of health, eliminate health inequities, increase Latino engagement in health care, and promote life opportunities. For more information about our center, please see our website.

Description of Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Project Manager will coordinate research activities and support scientific and administrative operations across CLAFH's portfolio of federally funded research projects. The position will involve managing research timelines and deliverables, coordinating with research teams and external partners, supporting communication with funding agencies, and contributing to the development of manuscripts, grant proposals, presentations, and other scientific products.

The Research Project Manager will:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of research activities across multiple federally funded projects, including qualitative and quantitative research studies.
  • Oversee research timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure activities are completed in accordance with study protocols, project objectives, and funding requirements.
  • Coordinate research activities, including participant recruitment, qualitative interviews, focus groups, surveys, data collection, and related study procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with research staff, investigators, external collaborators, and community partners to support research implementation and ensure effective coordination across project activities.
  • Supervise and coordinate assigned research staff, including supporting training, work assignments, progress monitoring, and timely completion of research tasks.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for project officers, funding agencies, and external research partners, including coordinating meetings, preparing agendas and progress updates, and tracking follow-up activities.
  • Assist with preparation of progress reports, annual reports, grant-related documentation, and other funder-required deliverables.
  • Support grant writing and proposal development, including drafting, editing, formatting, coordinating application materials, and preparing supporting documentation.
  • Conduct literature reviews, background research, and evidence synthesis to support manuscripts, grant applications, presentations, and research development.
  • Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts, abstracts, conference presentations, reports, and other research dissemination products.
  • Assist with organizing, reviewing, synthesizing, and interpreting qualitative and quantitative research findings in collaboration with investigators and research staff.
  • Develop and edit presentations, briefing materials, and written summaries for academic, community, policy, and funding audiences.
  • Coordinate research meetings and scientific activities, including preparing meeting materials, documenting decisions, and monitoring progress on action items.
  • Ensure research activities are conducted in accordance with approved study protocols, institutional review board requirements, human subjects protections, and relevant institutional and funding agency policies.
  • Support the Principal Investigator and CLAFH leadership with special projects, scientific initiatives, funding opportunities, and time-sensitive deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of CLAFH's research and scientific mission.

Qualifications for the Position

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, psychology, nursing, social work, health sciences, or a related field required; master's degree preferred.
  • Experience coordinating or managing research activities, preferably within academic, public health, or federally funded research settings.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple projects, manage competing deadlines, and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, including participant recruitment, data collection, interviews, focus groups, or surveys preferred.
  • Experience preparing research reports, scientific manuscripts, grant applications, or other academic and scientific materials preferred.
  • Familiarity with federal research funding agencies, grant reporting requirements, and research administration preferred.
  • Excellent scientific writing, editing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to synthesize scientific literature and translate complex research findings into clear, accessible written and visual materials.
  • Experience working collaboratively with interdisciplinary research teams, community partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Experience conducting research with Latino, Black, and other historically underserved communities preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, initiative, and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-focused environment.
  • Strong commitment to advancing health equity and improving adolescent, young adult, and family health.
