Richard Lu at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Technician to join our research team. Our laboratory investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurological diseases and brain cancers, with a particular focus on glial cell development, brain tumor biology, and myelin repair. Our research combines molecular biology, genetics, advanced imaging, and animal models to better understand disease mechanisms and identify potential therapeutic strategies.Major research areas include:
- Brain tumor biology: Investigating the mechanisms underlying the development, progression, and recurrence of malignant brain tumors, including glioblastoma (GBM), diffuse midline glioma (DIPG/DMG), and medulloblastoma.
- Glial cell development and myelin repair: Understanding oligodendrocyte development, myelination, and mechanisms of neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis.
- Therapeutic development: Exploring novel targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and strategies to promote neural repair.
The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing research projects while assisting with laboratory operations, animal colony management, and experimental procedures. This position offers opportunities to develop technical expertise and participate in collaborative biomedical research.Key Responsibilities
- Assist with laboratory experiments related to neuroscience, glial biology, and brain tumor research.
- Maintain genetically engineered mouse colonies, including breeding, genotyping, and colony recordkeeping.
- Perform molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, and gel electrophoresis.
- Assist with tissue collection, processing, and preparation of samples for histological analysis.
- Perform immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence staining, and microscopy.
