What they need

Biotelliga (a Corteva Agriscience company) is an Ag-biotech company utilising fungi, nature’s plant-interaction specialists, to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies to protect crops from pests and diseases. We have a rich pipeline of game-changing products in development from discovery to pre-commercial phase.

About the role

Do you have “good hands”? We are offering a full-time opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to join our Synthetic Biology team as a Research Technician. You will work in a friendly and supportive lab environment with fellow scientists and technicians to help develop mainly synthetic biology techniques for engineering microorganisms to improve crop health. Projects will utilise molecular & synthetic biology, microbiology, genetics, bioinformatics, and fermentation capability. You will also contribute to general lab management, as required.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to work in a dynamic and diverse team environment where priorities shift. You must perform scientific experiments to a high standard, be self-driven, proactive, able to follow procedures accurately and meet deadlines in a multi-tasking environment, and willing to learn new skills.

Minimum qualifications and experience

  • Honours or master’s degree in molecular biology or related field with at least 2 years’ related experience, ideally working in projects involving expression of biosynthetic pathways or other proteins in microbes.
  • Experience in bacterial/fungal genetics and genome sequence analysis.
  • Experience in molecular biology and microbiology techniques. You should be able to “clone anything” and demonstrate expertise with DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, microbial culture and transformation.
  • Experience working in a PC2 laboratory.
  • Good data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Understanding of relevant statistical analyses and data visualisation.
  • Familiar and engaged with quality control, health & safety, and containment requirements in laboratories.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Good Word and Excel skills.
  • Must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
