About the role

• To assist the Head of Reserving and Chief Actuary in activities across all managed Syndicates and other duties where necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting the Head of the Reserving Function, with key reserving judgements and report writing.

• Present results of Reserving Analysis to the Chief Actuary as well as senior underwriting and claims personnel. 

• Provide direction and lead a fully effective and engaged team, including responsibility for resourcing, performance management, coaching and developing team members.

• Develop business processes, implement new technologies and new methodologies to ensure continued relevance and efficiency.

• Responsible for data processing, set up and delivery of quarterly reserving and reporting processes. 

• Assist with design and regular production of reserve monitoring statistics for reporting to senior management and relevant committees.

• Assist with the completion of external documents, as required by regulators e.g. Lloyd’s

• Communicate with the external auditors when required and lead engagement with SAO providers. 

• Maintain appropriate records for all work and assist with the maintenance of all key reserving documentation.

• Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required.

Skills & Experience

• Qualified actuary, with demonstrable general insurance experience.   

• Previous experience of Lloyd’s business is highly desirable.

• Experience of quarterly/year end reserving processes and reporting. 

• Knowledge of actuarial reserving techniques is essential. 

• Excellent computing skills are essential and competency in use of office IT applications.

• Excellent Excel and report writing skills.

• Knowledge of Python or other coding experience is desirable. 

• Knowledge of Res-Q desirable.

• Attention to detail and ability to solve problems using their own initiative.

• People management experience desirable.

• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

• Strong work ethic, comfortable working through periods of high demand and able to prioritise workload.
