What they need
Ciorba Group's Peoria office just got a major upgrade, newly remodeled and purpose-built for growth in central and downstate Illinois. We're expanding our presence with IDOT District 4 and local agency clients, and we're looking for people who want to be part of building something, not just joining something.
Ciorba Group is an employee-owned (ESOP) engineering firm headquartered in Chicago, with offices in Peoria and Crown Point. We work with DOTs, counties, and municipalities on roadway, structural, water resources, electrical and lighting, and construction engineering projects across the Midwest. We're people-first and committed to building careers alongside infrastructure.
The Resident Engineer serves as a project’s technical expert with the responsibility to make decisions and interpretations affecting the outcome of a constructed project. A licensed professional is required. Tasks performed require broad knowledge of engineering fundamentals with no immediate supervision needed. The Resident Engineer may work on several projects at one time, reporting to the assigned Project Manager and Group Manager. A Resident Engineer will serve as the lead on small to mid-sized construction projects or as the Assistant Resident Engineer on larger infrastructure construction projects.
Responsibilities:
- Resident Engineer on construction projects involving roadway, bridge and underground improvements using local, state, and federal funding.
- Prepare all construction documentation per IDOT BLR&S requirements using CMMS, or similar detailed local agency required documentation.
- Measure and calculate pay item quantities, prepare contractor pay applications, and oversee preparation of construction record drawings.
- Develop change orders and pay estimates
- The ability to complete on site re-design when issues/conflicts are found.
- Coordinate directly with the client providing daily or weekly reporting, preparing for and chairing preconstruction meetings, and responding directly to the client with project issues.
- The ability to work closely and manage other team members and positively interact with the public.
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited school
- 8-10 years of construction experience
- Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Certified in IDOT’s Documentation of Contract Quantities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to learn through on the job mentoring and training
- MicroStation experience a plus
