Resident Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities

• Administer and manage the construction contract in accordance with its terms and conditions.
• Maintain accurate site records, correspondence, progress reports, drawings registers, and site instructions.
• Prepare payment certificates, measure quantities, and manage variation orders.
• Ensure compliance with design principles and report discrepancies in contract documents.
• Oversee quality assurance and ensure all works are executed safely and in accordance with specifications.
• Verify contractor setting-out accuracy and ensure proper materials testing.
• Act as the Employers Site Agent and manage stakeholder relationships.
• Facilitate communication between the Engineer, Employer, and Contractor.
• Conduct site meetings and maintain formal records.
• Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior staff while maintaining professional development.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong understanding of construction contract administration and project management principles.
• Sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards, regulations, and statutory requirements.
• Technical expertise in road construction and infrastructure projects.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

Education

• Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech).

Experience

• Minimum of 8 years experience in SANRAL or Provincial Roads projects.
• Proven technical background in road construction supervision and contract management.

Qualifications

• Professional Registration with a recognized engineering body.
• Ongoing participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
