What they need

SUMMARY
Provides direct support, personal care, guidance, and assistance with daily living to individuals with
intellectual and developmental disabilities residing in Lafourche Arc community homes. The Residential
Floater works between all six community homes and accepts assigned shifts wherever staffing coverage is
needed, rather than maintaining a permanent assignment at one home. The position requires flexibility to
cover days, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays based on Residential Department needs.
The floater is expected to become familiar with each home’s recipients, care plans, routines, and
documentation requirements. This is a full-time position guaranteed 40 hours per week and requires on-call
availability to respond to staffing needs across the six homes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accept assignments at any of the six community homes to fill staffing vacancies, call-ins, approved
leave, and other coverage needs; follow schedules and promptly communicate availability or scheduling
conflicts to the appropriate supervisor.
Provide individualized assistance with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, eating,
toileting, personal hygiene, grooming, mobility, communication, and development of practical and social
skills.
Promote dignity, independence, positive behavior, and social interaction; provide emotional support and
guidance consistent with each recipient’s individualized plan.
Prepare and serve meals, follow prescribed menus and dietary instructions, document deviations when
required, and model appropriate mealtime behaviors.
Assist with shopping, appointments, community outings, recreational activities, and therapeutic
exercises or activities as directed and within training.
Implement approved behavior-support and safety procedures, including physical intervention only when
authorized, trained, and necessary under agency policy.
Observe, accurately document, and report recipient health, behaviors, feeding, toileting, activities,
incidents, and changes in condition in accordance with each home’s procedures.
Attend to routine health-care needs, including medication administration or assistance only when
appropriately trained, certified, delegated, and authorized; accompany recipients to medical
appointments and communicate medically pertinent information.
Transport recipients to destinations within or outside the community as assigned, in accordance with
agency driving and vehicle safety requirements.
Perform household duties such as cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, basic yard work, and
maintaining safe, orderly home and vehicle conditions.
Review shift reports, daily communications, recipient plans, and home-specific instructions at the
beginning of each assignment; provide accurate handoff communication at shift change.
Complete all required documentation, including care records, medication records, incident reports,
safety checks, and applicable fire drills or other regulatory activities.

Attend required staff, safety, interdisciplinary team, and training meetings; complete recipient-specific
and home-specific training before independently performing duties requiring that training.
Immediately report safety concerns, recipient needs, staffing issues, and unusual incidents to the
appropriate Home Manager or Residential leadership.
Follow Lafourche Arc policies, confidentiality requirements, recipient rights, emergency procedures, and
applicable licensing and regulatory requirements.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
FLOATER SCHEDULING EXPECTATIONS
Works at all six community homes as assigned; assignments may change based on operational needs.
Guaranteed 40 hours of work per week. Must be flexible to work days, evenings, overnight shifts,
weekends, and holidays based on departmental needs.
Must be available to work on call to address staffing shortages and unexpected open shifts, including
outside regularly scheduled hours. Carry a working phone, respond promptly to scheduling calls or
messages, and report availability or conflicts as soon as possible.
Accept assigned shifts across the six community homes, including schedule changes as needed. Work
additional hours when approved and in accordance with agency overtime, scheduling, and rest-period
policies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
High school diploma or GED, consistent with the Residential DSP job description.
Ability to read instructions, communicate clearly, complete accurate and timely documentation, and
exercise sound judgment.
Ability to adapt to different home environments, recipient needs, routines, and staff teams while
maintaining consistent quality of care.
Current Louisiana driver’s license and ability to provide transportation as required by assigned duties.
Complete and maintain required training, including CPR, First Aid, seizure management, medication
administration as applicable, behavior management, fire and emergency safety, exposure control,
confidentiality, and recipient rights.
Medication administration certification and/or nurse delegation where required for assigned duties.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work takes place in multiple residential homes, vehicles, and community settings, indoors and outdoors.
Duties may require standing, walking, sitting, reaching, bending, kneeling, handling, lifting, and assisting
recipients with transfers or personal care. Visual acuity, hearing, communication, and safe use of equipment
are necessary. Potential exposures include household cleaning chemicals, blood and bodily fluids, infectious
agents, and physical behaviors of recipients. Physical assistance and lifting demands vary significantly by
home and recipient; the existing Residential DSP description identifies medium-duty and very-heavy-duty
assignments at different homes. Employees must be capable of safely performing the essential functions of
assigned shifts, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT
I acknowledge that I have reviewed and received this job description. I understand that assignments may
occur at any of the six Residential community homes and that duties and schedules may vary based on
departmental needs. This description summarizes the position and is not an exhaustive list of all duties. I
understand this position guarantees 40 hours of work per week and requires on-call availability.
